Has anyone created a MySql_Workbench.deb?  I realize it is alpha, but eventually
it will need to be done, and it would be nice if none of my bug reports were due
to my installation problems.  OK, it would be nice if it was easy to install.  :)

Er, is there even any chance on building a Linux ver?

Sure, I'm building it on gentoo linux.
But unfortunately the created binary is still very unstable.

I'd wait a while for Workbench, as it gets further work on it.

In fact, visiting: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/gui-tools/5.0.html
you'll realize there are tarball downloads, but for Workbench alone, it
seems to be windows only

Tarballs (i.e. not debs) are provided for all the gui tools though, so
they will run on your DEB capable box

I have been using it on and off from the start - it works "good enough" - just
have to remember to save often.

but .debs make it easier, just like all the gui tools make it easier to do
something that could be done using the CLI.

And more consistent.

And I would assume eventually packages will be created for the 'popular' package
manager/distros: apt, rpm, gentoo, slack.  The sooner someone starts working on
a .deb, the sooner I can start testing it.

To some degree it will be more work for me.  but I have found it better than
using pen and paper or DB4.  As long as it doesn't create more work for someone
else, it seems like a reasonable thing to hope for.

Currently, Workbench is windows only, and eventually, when it becomes
available on Linux, I'm sure there will be a deb and so forth

        kind regards
