working with files in AIML

I am a newbie at this (this is part of my university senior design project) and I have to use program D.  Is there a way, like writting a script, to read the input, read from another file,  and compare it to the input gathered, do something, and then depeding on the something, say something else?
For example
If input is ? then
      look for keywords
      look what the keywords means
     Do something for this keyword
     Respond according to the something
