winspool.drvRunning a runtime FMP DB on XP workstation with Server 2003.
8 workstations\machines are working fine and one keeps getting error message about winspool.drv. Thinking that file got corrupted so I copied winspool.drv from good machine and tried to paste it in windows\system32 to replace possible damaged one. Will not let me do it saying that another program is using file but no programs are running according to Task Manager. Everytime I try to launch filemaker (runtime) I get an error signature of winspool.drv. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks in advance. Re: winspool.drvChris may be using a whirlpool,
The way I handle that problem is: 1. Move the offending file out of the folder it is in, sometimes the trash folder is allowed other times it is not. 2. Move the replacement into the destination folder. 3. Restart the computer immediately, do not do anything else that might call for the use of the offending file. 4. Trash offending file and empty trash. __________ Regards, Jimmy Jones FileMaker 8 Certified Developer On Jul 21, 2008, at 9:39 AM, Chris Botticella wrote: > Running a runtime FMP DB on XP workstation with Server 2003. > > 8 workstations\machines are working fine and one keeps getting error > message about winspool.drv. > > Thinking that file got corrupted so I copied winspool.drv from good > machine and tried to paste it in windows\system32 to replace > possible damaged one. Re: winspool.drvHi Chris,
You may have to start the system in safe mode to replace the file. Before you start this put a copy of the new file on the system on the C: drive. Once the system is up in safe mode replace the file. To put the system in safe more, do the following: Shut the system down. Count to 10 slowly. ( 10 seconds) Start the system Tap the F8 key repeatedly. You should get a menu. Select start in safe mode. When the system is up replace the file. Once the replacement is complete, restart the system and test. If replacing the file doesn't solve the problem you may have to do a system repair. You do this with the original Windows XP cd. Check out Google for more involved instructions then I can provide here. Just make sure you repair the existing system and don't install. An installation will erase the disk. When you are done with the repair you should re-apply system patches. So this can take a while. I hope this helps.
