Hi all,

We are thinking of adding standalone bar code scanners to a customers
application. The scanner people are talking about using a scanner
with windows ce on it to communicate with 4d 2004 server. Anyone have
experience running 4d client on such a beast, 4d widget (not sure of
windows name for this), using soap to call 4d server db.

Any help appreciated.

TIA

Chuck

We have looked into this type of operation. You could use web biased
connections over the wireless network, The 4d client would not work however
you should be able to send forms using HTTP the biggest problem is screen
size if you need a lot of data entered. We utilize windows biased barcode
scanners running windows mobile 4 and 5. In our case we could not guarantee
a connection to the server so we built a standalone application using .net
and SQLCE and sync the data betwene 4d and the scanners.
