I get the same thing in RC2 on Ubuntu 8.04.

I don't know. There's been some kind of bug until a few days ago which made
LMMS save preset still with old extensions but they anyways should be usable
just like other old cs.xml-files too. Maybe he wants to try latest SVN and
check whether the bug still exists and describe it a little bit more detailed,
i.e. what means "can't save". Is it "the file is not being created", "LMMS
crashes when saving preset" or "I can't load or find the preset afterwards"?

True - I would assume he probably just can't seem them since the load
filter was different than the saved extension.
