we have an ancient oil conversion rayburn who drinks like it's only 10p a litre. We need to have an aga/rayburn in the kitchen for damp control (semi-basement room) and want advice on what the best fuel would be to go for. Oil, gas, solid or electric?

Depends on whether you are fixed on keeping the Rayburn or not. Does it do any radiators or hot water?

If you do't use it for central heating then you have the option of going for Agas.

If you use it for central heating then you should really think about geting a modern boiler for this and just use an Aga to keep off the damp.

Fuel options for agas are varied, there is the snugburner option for Oil Agas that will bring the running cost down a lot. Natural gas is still an option but getting more expensive by the day. Possibly the best bet for the future is an electric conversion of an Aga. These aren't out yet but should be in the next month or so.

Choices choices choices. It really depends how you use the cooker.
