The Pope is in Sydney and World Youth Day events start officially
tomorrow and there are lots of media in town -- including this morning
this guy with this interesting looking video panorama rig
http://www.mediavr.com/videosystem.jpg

He wasnt very forthcoming but it seems to be I think some sort of GigE
digital cinema/machine vision sensor with some mirror lens I hadnt seen
before. One cable would be a data link, the other power maybe. He is
controlling his laptop with a wireless mouse. The dynamic range of the
screen image seemed very good considering the contrasty scene. This is
a good setup I thought tho not very portable. The battery at the bottom
would provide good stability for the monopod.

There are a few pre-WYD panos on my blog -- saint's relics in town etc

here btw is a panorama I made this morning at the event where I saw
the video panorama guy

... one of the few benefits of very contrasty lighting like this is
that one can sometimes fudge nadirs by pretending they are just very
dark shadows :-)
