verifone and jpos

guys, i wiLL be using verifone as terminaL to try and connect to a
jpos server.
what are the things that i shouLd know?
i have been studying jpos for the past weeks.

  and if anyone knows about a certain miLLeniun Hub and its message
format i wouLd appreciate additionaL info

The list is pretty big, but you are filling some of the gaps in various
other threads.

Just some initial thoughts.

1. What network protocol will the terminal talk to you over.
2. How are it's messages structured and what fields hold what values
about the transaction.
3. Does it use any encryption for security around the requests or responses.
4. How does it handle timeouts and thus what do you need to do.
5. How does it handle errors and do you need to do anything about retries.


There are many other aspects that may or may not apply.  The system
owner or terminal vendor will have the documents describing their
processing rules.

I don't think you have said yet, what role does your solution provide?

Please tell me you have a document - or will insist on being given one
for this system.  Relying on help from here may be fruitless, but you
never know...

weLL, they said the format is of the miLLenium hub..
the one i asked about in other posts about the packager but i will try
to read andy's post first.

not that i know of..maybe they'LL specify that one a Li'L Later..

weLL, as of now..they're just concerned of connecting and "detecting"
something from verifone..
i know you're having a hard time but so am i..
and i'm sorry for the troubLes i cause.

i wiLL try to secure aLL these that you have mentioned.

but i need to ask this one first.

how do i detect the verifone terminal with jpos?
can i just use the serversimulator?

i have changed the port but nothing happens..
aLso..i don't know on which the terminaL runs..

i know this is amazingLy dumb..
i reaLLy have no experience with this kind of projects..

It seems likely that the terminal will be configured to connect with a
system via TCP/IP - this might be yours?

For testing or as a starting position, perhaps.

You have changed which port?

I'm afraid you have lost me...

... You need to know the flow of of the messages and when (and how) your
get involved.  There are many combinations, only you at this time can
determine what you should be doing and how.

Why are you involved in this one?  You obviously like a challenge, or
don't yet appreciate how far you have to go?

i'LL try my best ok?

i have a verifone vx510 (with softpay software).
and what i'm supposed to do is to try and make the terminaL connect to
jpos.

but...i don't know the channeL and packager that i shouLd use.

has anyone worked with verifone in this kind of scenario?

So you will probably setup a jpos server to listen for connections on a
port.

The terminals will need to be configured to connect to your ip address
on the port above.

Not me, but do you have a manual to describe how to configure the device?

Do the terminals you have include the *optional* ethernet port?

You have indicated TCP/IP was to be used previously, so I guess they do.

The datasheet on the verifone site (
http://www.verifone.com/PDF/Vx510_Acquirer_A4.pdf ) indicates that the
terminal supports ISO8583 messages.
Do you have the option of having it use ISO8583 messages rather than the
field delimited structure you have indicated?
Are you migrating an existing group of merchants or is this a brand new
solution?

Do you already have a piece of hardware called an HSM (Host Security
Module)?  I ask because the terminal supports PIN and other encryption
you might need to conduct secure decryption on encryption on the message
received or sent?

It also has a chip reader, will you be acquiring chip transactions?

Sorry for the number of questions back to you, my hope is you will start
asking for these sorts of details of your boss or client.

the terminaL can now connect to jpos. thanks.

for as Long as the card is in-house, i think yeah.
but that depends on the terminaL's message format which my b0ss said
we wiLL have to ask for.
the deLimited format that i asked in other posts wiLL actuaLLy be used
when the jpos server that i wiLL be constructing wiLL have to connect
to another server for cards that are not in-house to the company.

ok.. i wiLL bring these things up to my bosses..thank you

as of now, there wiLL be no chip transactions yet..

Looks Like i don't..used a network sniffer and found out that the
verifone(with softpay) has the deLimited message format..

this..isn't gonna be easy yah?

This terminal appears to support multiple message formats, but it will
have had to be told which to use.

It sounds like you have no choice but to stick with the 'current'
message structure - it was just an idea I wanted to check out.

Very little is easy, what you are attempting is just complex.

I asked about ISO8583 as 'more' people use that and are familiar with
it.  jPOS is an ISO8583 framework, but does support other message formats.

The message structures and their handling are small problems, at least
jPOS helps - where it can - with this processing.

just want to change things..i don't see deLimiters at aLL..
and i'm stiLL trying to figure out other things about the message
structure that i sniffed that don't match to the format that was
initiaLLy given to us..
