Accessing IPerson or group membership in universality.xsl?

Is there an easy way to access Person Directory or group membership info in the default uP3 theme? I’d like to do a <xsl:if> in universality.xsl that tests whether the authenticated user has an IPerson attribute set or is a member of a specific group.

UP-1816 fixed in uPortal 2.6?

We ran into the problem of "Objects attached to a PortletSession
randomly disappear" (up-1816) in 2.5. Has this been fixed in 2.6? If
not, what do we need to do to fix it? Is there a patch? Thanks.

We did two things two things in Authentication.java to address this specific concern for our Portal:

1) Since we can’t reliably depend upon the displayName attribute from our directory, we concatenate givenName + sn for the FullName used by uPortal (this is really institution-specific for us, so may not really apply in your case)

2) We also removed the “Unrecognized Person” blurb from the message just in case no FullName can be derived from those attributes

Here’s what our code looks like (in the authenticate() method):

// Make sure the the user's fullname is set

// Use givenName + sn for display name

if ( (person.getAttribute("givenName") != null) &&

(person.getAttribute("sn") != null) ) {

person.setFullName(

See persondirectorycontext.xml (in UP3) and PersonDirectory.xml (UP2.6). The

attribute "displayName" should be mapped from JDBC or LDAP attributes.

Glad to hear that TabbedRSSPortlet worked with 2.6, and please feel free
to become a committer for it to get it to work with 3.0.1 or add a
ticket to its Jira ( http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/TRSSPT ) if
you're having trouble with it and attach debug logs, screenshot(s) if
possible.

And if you decide to start developing it, there is another portlet
developer mailing list (portlet-dev@...) although I don't
know how many have subscribed to it yet:

Some history and current status:

This was one of three portlets written by Matt Young and Ren Provey in
2007 (shown at the 2007 JA-SIG conference) and contributed by Duke
University in Spring 2008.

Matt had open-sourced TabbedRSSPortlet and FacebookPortlet (not to be
confused with UC Irvine Facebook Portlet) via a site hosted at Duke but
I moved them over into JA-SIG so Jen Bourey of Yale, and Erik A. Olsson
at UC Irvine could further develop it. Matt had also planned to
open-source MailPortlet but didn't have time before he left Duke in the
fall of 2007, and Jen asked about it in Spring 2008, so I imported all 3
after some quick cleanup of MailPortlet, and then Jen and Erik have
really cleaned it up since.

Anyway- while I think that Jen and Erik have had success with
MailPortlet, I don't know that anyone has used the TabbedRSSPortlet and
FacebookPortlet that was imported yet. (People please speak up if you
have it working and are using any of those 3, so we can add you to the
participants list on their respective wiki pages, or feel free to add
yourself to those pages) except you and Duke (and Duke is still using uP
2.5.3 GA, and a previous incarnation of these 3 portlets still- but that
will change as I have time).

Duke (me ;) ) is currently starting some RSS portlet work, and we are
just starting to look at the NewsReaderPortlet that Anthony Colebourne
of Univ. of Manchester wrote (based on CalendarPortlet from Jen Bourey)
and trying to determine whether we should extend that or
TabbedRssPortlet. The goal being that we would like a reader that could
function as a list (maybe tabbed list?) of news items/entries from a
feed (or tabbed feeds), would be optionally customizeable (some/all
feeds addable/removeable) by users, or could also act as a slideshow to
render in a small space with just a picture from the feed with a
headline that you could use arrows (or whatever) to move back and forth
between headlines, but would show the most recent one first (and maybe
in future could act as a slideshow with fading in/out slides or similar).

portal.log does not show any error. So I didnot attach.

If you can provide more information about the problem you are having
people will likely be able to provide more help. I don't think anyone
has found a portlet that works on 2.X but not 3.X yet.

I tried to deploy tabbed rss portlet (trunk). No success yet. So I am wondering if I am missing something. I got success with UP 2.6 though.
