Guys, could you remove me from the lists "dev" and "users"?

The automatic removal doesn't work because the e-mail that I write
from (paul.andreyev@...) is forwarded from paul@....
The latter is subscribed to the lists. So, the latter needs to be
removed.

Actually I like Axion. I use it as an embedded database in Java Application and it's just working fine, even though there are a few things missing. Performance is also ok. Since I want to stay with Java and want to use the cross platform capability, I see no reason to switch.

It's just sad that such a cool project seems to be abandoned. I am a contributor to IzPack (www.izforge.com). This is a very active project, going strong for many years.

I downloaded the source and set up the classpaths using Eclipse. I also have my
JDK set to 5.0. It was complaining that VarBinaryType had a duplicate method
"equals". This is because VarBinaryType extends BaseDataType, which implements
DataType. DataType extends Comparator and Serializable, so there is no need to
implement these 2 interfaces again in this class. I removed those 2 interfaces
from the implements set and it compiles fine. Also compiles under 1.4.

I have an observer status, so I don't think I can commit anything.

Just thought I should mention it.

formatting a date

I have a Date field in my axion database that refused to display in my JBuilder QueryDataSet UI. I guess I need to convert to a formatted string. I'm kicking myself

because I've done this before with axion. What is the SELECT code for formatting a date into a string with Axion ie the equivalent to to_char(mydate, 'dd/mm/yyyy')

I did have some success, but seems like delete is still slow for both
array as well as btree index.

After running http://www.polepos.org/ on Axion I found few issues and fixed as much as possible. I am happy with the result before and after this refactoring. I will outline few major changes that I did in past couple of weeks:

Axion had lots of unnecessary toUpperCase all over for object names, removed where possible.
Improved performance for constraint check specifically for primary key.
Improved performance for Prepare statements specifically for addBatch() and executeBatch() sequence.
Improved performance by in-lining and/or declaring some accessor functions as final in critical sections.
Improved performance by replacing Iterator based loop to index based loop for Lists.
Improved performance by cashing hashcode and use == for equal methods in ColumnIdentifier and few other places.
Improved performance by cashing RowDecorator where possible
Improved performance by using Index for IntRowMap instead of sorting the rows for Index column in getIndexedRows(), this improved performance significantly while doing lots of insert/update in batch mode. While checking constraints the getIndexedRows() was called very frequently and sorting the all the rows in transaction was very expensive.
Improved performance by using IntHashMap/IntSet where possible.
Automatically create index for FKs, Axion does create index PKs already.
Optimized query planner for traditional join.

New features

Support for CASCADE on various commands, now Axion will check for dependent object and will not allow deleting the object unless CASCADE is used; before it was not making any such check.
Better and complete ForeignKey support with ON DELETE/UPDATE Clause support.
Added Set autocommit on|off for Axion console.

Proposing switch to actual BSD license

In order to simplify the explanation, I'd like to propose we change our
license from "BSD-like" to the actually BSD license.

Specifically, I'd like to propose the following:

If you compare this to our current license

t?rev=HEAD) you'll note the following changes:

* We no longer reference "Tigris", which we probably never really had
much right to anyway

* Bullets 3 and 4 are collapsed into a single item

* The bit at the bottom defining "Axion Development Team" and stating
"License changes are to be determined by a simple majority vote of the
Axion Development Team." has been dropped, as it seems to make some
lawyers nervous.

If there are no comments, complaints or suggestions, I'll open a formal
VOTE thread later this week.
