this question of the category view....

Robbie has withstood my proddings on this with great good humor.  Here is why
its a problem.

In my case, tellico is being used for an indexed collection.  The items have
one unique index number, assigned at the time of accession.  The index field
is fairly meaningless.  In defiance of good database practice it has a
meaning of sorts, but its a combination of year, month and ordinal position
of the item in accessions for that month.  So it might be something like
Site1 2004.11.13.

The problem occurs when you are doing the three pane view.  Your group is,
lets say, the type of item.  These could be books, models, photos,
prints...etc.

You see in the left pane then, that you have 42 prints and 25 photos.  You
wish to know more.  So you click on a folder.  At that point you see 25
identical icons all with the accession numbers under them. Stuff like, Site1
2004.2.3 This isn't very helpful because the legends tell you nothing.really
about the object.

This is why it would be nice to see instead, when you click on the folder, all
25 items appear in the top right pane, and then when you use that pane to
scroll through, the detail appearing in the bottom right.

I can see this might be different if you were indexing by book title, for
example.

How does anyone else feel about this?

Al

I still think the right-click, "Filter by group" does what you want. :P

In that case, it sound like you just want to use a different field as the
title, no?
