broken html code displayed on all pages

Hi
I have installed via yum squirrelmail.noarch-1.4.13-1.fc8 and via the
latest source code from the squirrelmail home site .
No matter what I do I get broken html displayed on the login page ,
the home page , and the log out page.
An example from the login page "

subscribe/unsubscribe to folder

The unsubscribe is list and the subscribe has check boxes.
I think both folder list should look the same.

I can't see what version I have but it is from svn.

Lighttpd vs. Nginx

Hi folks,

Although I do understand that's maybe not the best place to start such a
debate, there is a question I would like to address to this community.
I'm running Squirrelmail 1.4.15 (btw on FitPC hosting Ubuntu + postfix,
dspam, procmail and dovecot).

When accessing my mailbox through SM relying on Lighty, everything works
quite fine.
I recently deployed Nginx, goal being to replace Lighttpd.

I found some tutorials on internet explaining how to implement FastCGI. So
far so good, I did it but it basically doesn't work.
I mean I can access my mailbox and browse IMAP folders (it's faster than
Lighty) but I'm facing the ".../src/src/compose.php?mail..." error while
trying to compose email. If I manually remove the additional "/src" then
it works (mail is even sent, although I got an error message).

To make it short, SM works with Lighttpd but not with Nginx (I tried
multiple Nginx version, from 0.5 to 0.7.11)
Therefore my question would better fit in Nginx forum (I'm going to do it)
but except with SM, Nginx works well.

Now my question:

Have you ever experienced same behavior?
Google is sometime my friend but he refuses to help on this specific topic
:-)

By definition, the 1.4 branch *is* stable. The 1.5 branch is not - it
is our development branch and is always changing. If you use it, DO
NOT use 1.5.0 nor 1.5.1 - you should use 1.5.2 only.

Outlook works differently and you have been told this many times.
Your Outlook mail may not even be going via the same email software or
even not via the same server.

Which are SEREVR environment variables that Squirrel mail gets from
the SEREVR.

'Environment' section are the PHP variables made by getting the
information FROM YOUR SERVER.

This means your SERVER is set wrong to 'domain'.local at least on the
local LAN.

Outlook only gets information from the local machine.

It is only if you use the system ONLY on a LAN, NOT when connected
to the internet.

Windows servers require you to set the machine name/hostname to
a fully qualified domain name e.g. webmail.example.com

Windows domains/workgroups are completely DIFFERENT.

Your hostname/machine name appears wrongly set.

Your Apache (or whatever webserver software you are using)
may well be wrong and be using different names when accessed
from the local LAN and internet.

Your SERVER setup and its software for webserving, and/or
email serving is wrong. I suspect your networking routing
is wrong as well.

try ./configure , 'General options' - 'Default left side' to set the width
in pixel.

I'll give the patches a shot tomorrow. It's time for rest now...

But, I have one more for you. Just what you needed-right? For some reason, the
inbox display is only using 1/2 the available width in konqueror. This is
openSuSE 11.0, KDE 3.5.9 rel. 49.1. Here is another screenshot. I'll just let
you chew on this one for a while ;-)

SM is a client running on your web server. Outlook is a client
running on your Windows desktop. Very little is the same about them.

I already told you SM is not adding this Received line and the MTA is.
If you insist otherwise, you are obviously unwilling to respect my
help, I therefore resign from this thread. You need to sort your
domain and mail server problems out apart from SM anyway.

My PHP knowledge is not that good that I can make any changes.

Yes, I've checked functions/options.php and the define is there. The only
plugins I have are calendar and squirrelspell. I have removed/disabled them and
the notice still appears. Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing:

Nothing to do with PHP. Open functions/options.php and see if line 52 has this:

define('SMOPT_SIZE_NORMAL', 5);

If it does, there may be a include order problem, although I've not
seen this myself. Are you running any plugins? (Note that you can
temporarily disable all plugins in the configuration utility without
actually removing any of them. You should try that.)

New install of SM 1.5.2 svn (revision 13268) on openSuSE 11.0 i386
(php5-5.2.6-0.1, apache2-2.2.8-28.1) and I am getting a large "SquirrelMail
notice messages" box when I select the addresses page. The message is displayed
at the bottom of the page and displays the following in a table:

Run conf.pl and select the following:
2 - server settings
b - smtp
7 - smtp authentication

Don't forget to save your settings!

Squirrelmail SMTP Authentication

Dear all, I have Postfix mail server configured for SMTP Autentication
taking and password from an existing MySQL database....it works very
well because each time a user send a mesage he must put his password.

We use Squirrelmail as my corporate webmail, so do I have to do any
change on SM settings in order to get SMTP AUTH also ??? Or does SM
automatically recognize this feature ???

Tutorials for IMAP install?

Guys,

I'm currently a Thunderbird user but I've begun the journey to feeling I'd be much better off with a web-based solution as I now use a few different computers and travel often. VNC'ing into my Thunderbird setup is now growing annoying as it means I need to keep the PC on when traveling and then resolutions and such make reading and composing a challenge.

The catch is that I want a solution that's every bit as robust as Thunderbird in some basic areas. I need a solution that can easily handle mail from several accounts, that has RSS feed support, that can do inline attachments, solid mail filtering, etc., etc., etc.

SquirrelMail looks like a good option for me but I'm a novice. I have NO experience setting up a mail server and so far the entire effort looks gargantuan.

I have a hosting account with GoDaddy (Linux) that is working fine and is currently running a PHPBB 3.0 installation using MySQL so I was able to get that up and running.

However, I have no clue about how to go about choosing the right IMAP server and getting it installed, etc.

Is there ANY sort of help to make this less painful?

In the end I want one main account handled directly (for the domain I have with GoDaddy and that they currently handle the mail for) and the rest to be taken from accounts like Gmail, Hotmail, etc.

Current standard webmail solutions are extremely limited in features or have all sorts of advertising associated with them plus I don't control them so who knows what they'll look like over time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I of course am top posting, and I apologize, but in this case thought that
it might warrent a top post. (again, sorry, but I suspect the person
asking the question might not read this answer.

I see that by having a domain name of xxx.xxx.local, that you are using a
Windows Server that is a member of a Windows Domain, or a Domain
Controller.

I am of course making some assumptions (and again apologize).

You need to visit a registrar (such and www.networkolutions.com or
www.godaddy.com or www.tosdomains.com (there are many more)) and register
a domain name. Once your domain name is registered with a registrar, you
need to tell your ISP and tell them what your domain name is. You will
also probably need to tell your ISP what username and password you created
for the Registrar of your domain name.

There are many spam filters that will not pass mail unless the last part
of the domain name end in .com, .edu, .net, etc. (.local, and .int are all
Windows Domain extensions that are used so as not to confuse the windows
domain with an internet domain.

It's not a "parameter". You don't "modify" it. Your problem is NOT
SquirrelMail. As I already told you, this is added by your MTA. You
need to find out WHY the messages are being rejected from your
provider. What you claimed previously is obviously wrong.

This is entirely impossible in SquirrelMail. The only known issue in
SM related to multiple user logins is if you DO NOT log out of the
first user account before logging into the second one, the preferences
of the second user will be overwritten with those of the first (IIRC).
This may make some things look like they have moved from user dave's
account into user simon's, but mails simply cannot be moved like that.
Period.

If you are not the system administrator, please contact them with your
problem. Make sure you are not using any other IMAP client (Outlook,
Thunderbird, etc) at the same time. Make sure you always sign out (if
you want to be really safe, close all browser windows too) before
logging in as another user.

How does that explain my situation in any way? I'm using the same
browser throughout testing. Change the IMAP server, option shows up,
change it back, option goes away. And for confirmation, I tested
against Opera 9, Firefox 3, and Konqueror (some version or another)
and could confirm it on all three.

Please provide information about used PHP version and third party SquirrelMail plugins. Show all modification that you made in newmail plugin and other standard SquirrelMail scripts.

Issue that you have is not related to IMAP server selection. Standard newmail plugin can't react the way you are saying. newmail plugin does not check IMAP server when option block is added to src/options.php.

Display of "NewMail Options" block does not depend on used imap server. It
depends on HTTP_USER_AGENT string provided by browser.

How does that explain my situation in any way? I'm using the same browser throughout testing. Change the IMAP server, option shows up, change it back, option goes away. And for confirmation, I tested against Opera 9, Firefox 3, and Konqueror (some version or another) and could confirm it on all three.

emails moving from one inbox to another

Hi,

I am having some troubles with Squirrel Mail...

When I logout of one account (dave), and into another account (simon)
- all the emails in the inbox of the first person (dave) seem get
merged into the inbox of the second person (simon). So now when Dave
logs in, he has no emails... and when Simon logs in he has all of
Daves email as well as his own. New emails to Dave go into his account
OK, but if I was to login to Dave, log out and then into Simon again -
all of Daves emails will move into Simon's inbox.

Any one had this issue before?

The mail server I believe is University of Washington.
