splash screen contest extended for two weeks

Hello,

the Release Status Meeting decided to shift the release of
OpenOffice.org 3.0 by two weeks, which gives us additional two weeks for
designing the splash screen. As Stella agreed to re-launch the contest,
I happily announce the new deadline for sending in your drafts:

MONDAY, JULY 28TH, 2008

I especially want to emphasize that your drafts NEED TO FULFILL ALL
REQUIREMENTS stated below. Drafts not fulfilling at least one
requirement cannot be taken into consideration for the final vote!
CURRENTLY, ALL DRAFTS WOULD BE INVALID as we neither have e-mail
addresses of the contributors, nor do we have the vector source files.

So, please do take that seriously!

The Wiki page for adding your proposals is
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Art/Splash_Screen/Proposals

The requirements are as follows:

     * it should fit into the general look and feel of OpenOffice.org
     * the size of the splashscreen and the space for the progress bar
should fit (see the existing splash screen, and also refer to
http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo_splash.html#progressbar)
     * apart from the splash screen, other design elements must be
created (e.g. NSIS installer, about window)
     * the source must be available in vector format
     * the SCA (Sun Copyright Assignment) must be signed by the author(s)
     * the original OpenOffice.org logo and typeface has to be used and
cannot be changed, this includes colors
     * two versions of the images are needed:
           o the Sun logo and the copyright text must be included
           o the other image shall be the same, but without the Sun logo
and copyright text
     * the final image will be in BMP format, so there is no
transparency possible
     * please make the screens without a version number (see Issue 73786)
     * the proposals must be added to the Wiki page at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Art/Splash_Screen/Proposals and
include name and e-mail address of the contributors

Hi Florian, all, (sorry if you're getting this twice, the original
only went to the dev@marketing mail list)

Could you please specify the dimensions of the different graphics that
need to be submitted?
e.g. the NSIS installer image - Stella's proposal is 164 × 314 pixels,
Kamonwan's is 164 × 312 pixels (as is mine).

What about the other NSIS image (there is the big one that appears on
the left hand side, and the short wide one that appears on the top) -
in the Beta 1 setup, it was just the plain OOo logo on the right and
it didn't fit with the default system background (see [1] - ideally,
the image should be full width), compare with [2].

One last question - would it be possible to have a background image
for the about box, instead of just a top image, as Kamonwan did [3]?

I've uploaded vector versions of my designs (using Nikash's 3 gulls)
if anyone wants to play around with these (Fireworks PNG & PSD
formats) [4],[5]. I was having trouble designing a rectangular
non-transparent splash screen - you can see how far I got [4]. All
other materials (NSIS, start center, etc) are included in [5].

and, for the sake of saving you some time, can we only send in splash
screens without the other stuff and then design the rest? maybe some kind of
pre-voting where the best couple of designs are nominated and then the
authors can make it final or so... with the about box, installer etc.. this
would be great.

I guess best would be to send in all elements at once. We definitely
need all elements. In the case someone is on vacation or gets ill and
his/her designs are chosen, this would be bad as we have code freeze
hanging around...

unfortunately, no one knows at the moment. I've asked Stella and she
refered me to Bernhard. I dropped him an e-mail, maybe he knows. If he
doesn't, the best proposal would be to use the same size as 2.4
currently has.

I don't have details on this, unfortunately. My proposal is to use the
latest beta and to see on how the design is in this, and then to use the
same size. It's most likely that the installer will look like in the eta.

I'm out of luck here. I'm CC'ing Martin who may know more about this.

thanks for the proposals! I don't want to comment on my like or dislike
in order to not influence anyone before the official vote. ;-) But
thanks for sending them in!

They look as if they fit the requirements. Please don't forget to send
in the SCA (Sun Copyright Assignment) if not done so already. You miss
two versions of the images (one with Sun logo+copyright, one without) -
but I don't consider that as a crucial thing if you ensure that this
modification can be done in the vector files without lot of work. :-)

We need one version without copyright text and Sun logo. But if you work
with layers and such (I'm no artist, sorry for the wrong words :-) and
this can be done easily with the source files, then it's fine.
