I really like what you've done to the place... :O)
I must concur that aerodynamics help a lot. I recently took a trip of
532 miles on "Ennie" and the recently added windshield increased my
mpg by about 5%. Plus I noted that on the flats if I ducked down
behind the windshield the bike almost surged ahead.
I also just received my HCI 50 helmet and I love it but it is noisy!
I wear earplugs but the open ear "flaps" just scoop up the wind! I am
trying various foam inserts in front of the ears and have tried two
types of earplugs. (So far disposable foam beats out an old custom
made 1/2 profile auditory insert... from the days before the new
silicone versions)
Perhaps your aerodynamic studies could also touch on the ever present
problem of sound attenuation pertaining to wind noise. But I still
love to hear the throb of that big single!
