RE: programD license GPL or LGPL, and is there any commercial license? What Mehri says is in principle true, if you modify Program D source code
and then make the 'binaries' publicly available you also have to make the amended source code available under the original licence, in this case GPL. Quite a few other 'open source' licenses work with similar constructions. However, I do not agree with his statement that *any* and *all* modifications to GPL source code have to be made available or can be demanded from the author. This is simply not true. I would like to refer to the same source as Mehri where this is clearly explained: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLRequireSourcePostedPublic http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#CanIDemandACopy The number of ways someone can commercially exploit software that was released under the GNU Public Licence is limited, but it can be done. If you plan on doing so, please contact the GNU organisation or a lawyer with a good reputation in these matters to advise you on the pitfalls. RE: programD license GPL or LGPL, and is there any commercial license?Yes, you are correct you can
> can commercially exploit > software that was > released under the GNU Public Licence I didn't say *any* and *all* though. Sorry if I implied it. I knew about these exceptions but I don't advertise them when talking about GPL. --- Anne Kootstra <anne@...> wrote: > What Mehri says is in principle true, if you modify > Program D source code > and then make the 'binaries' publicly available you > also have to make the > amended source code available under the original > licence, in this case GPL. > Quite a few other 'open source' licenses work with > similar constructions. > > However, I do not agree with his statement that > *any* and *all* > modifications to GPL source code have to be made > available or can be > demanded from the author.
