nss_updatedb compile errors

(Hmm... the link on the archive page for "netsys.com" is wayyy out of date.  Someone still archiving this list?)

I am having a problem compiling nss_updatedb on Fedora Core 6:

# make
cd . && autoheader
configure.in:6: /usr/bin/m4: Warning: sub-expression 1 not present
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
autoheader: /usr/bin/autom4te failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [stamp-h.in] Error 1

Is there a bug/fix or have I misconfigured it.
