no Jack midi output

hi,

I like to run Cmask thru Csound5.08 to my external FM synth with the midi output. This was ok using Alsa, but recently i switched to the JACK system (Linux). The audio output works fine but midi output does not.
I use the following command (from within Blue):

csound -d -+rtaudio=JACK -o dac:system:playback_ -b64 -d -+msg_color=false -Q2

Csound runs fine from the audio output but there is no csound midi output to be seen in the Connections window from Qjackctl.
The message window from csound itself says:

  0: Midi Through Port-0 (ALSA)
   1: M Audio Audiophile 24/96 MIDI (ALSA)
   2: qjackctl (ALSA)
MIDI: selected output device 2: 'qjackctl' (ALSA)

but, like i said, there's no Csound2 midi output generated Qjackctl. Also the documetation doesn't mention a Jack midi output. Will this be implemented soon?

The MIDI output is currently alsa (or portmidi, if you have it) not jack.
a Jack midi module has not yet been implemented.

Hi,

The qjackctl midi port is not a MIDI output port, it is an input port for qjackctl, for controlling qjackctl (the jack frontend) via MIDI.
There is jack MIDI as well, but it is not yet implemented in csound, and is very recent, so it hasn't yet shipped in many distributions.

Cheers,
Andrés

Hello,

no problem, i will wait a while.
At the moment AlgoScore has a Jack Midi out that works
well but that's the only program i know about that
uses Jack Midi.
I assume other programs will soon follow.

Thanks for the info.

I think there is a jack MIDI to alsa MIDI bridge, but I'm not sure what it's called.

Cheers,
Andrés

IIRC no-one else answered this mail.

Here are some other JackMIDI-aware apps:

Non Sequencer
http://non.tuxfamily.org/

Dino
http://dino.nongnu.org/

AZR3 organ
http://ll-plugins.nongnu.org/azr3/

LinuxSampler
http://www.linuxsampler.org/

JackMIDI support is also planned for QTractor and Ardour.

Best,

dp
