nikon coolpix 4500Hello everybody...
I am trying to use a Nikon Coolpix 4500 with gphoto2 for remote capture. I would like to make a time-lapsed movie but I have found that gphoto2 cannot connect correctly to the camera. The software can detect the camera but when I tried to shoot a picture with the maximum frame size an error occurred saying that the software 'could not query the device kernel'. I decreased the frame size to the minimum and the software was able to read the memory in the camera (it could not do it before) but still is impossible to shoot any picture. I think there is not a communication problem since the information about the camera can be read. Is there any set up on acquisition parameters I am missing? Anybody has any suggestions???? Thanks a lot, Fabian. pd. The firmware in the Nikon was updated to the newest version 1.3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: nikon coolpix 4500Yes I can download images...
When I used auto-detect the camera is detected correctly... COOLPIX4500 As I said before I can see the files only after I decrease the frame size. I had been using gphoto2 for several years to connect to coolpix4500 without any issue. Then, when gphoto2 was updated from 2.2.x to 2.3.x, it stopped working properly. Briefly, gphoto2 can execute a command only once. If I continue, the next run fails unless I reset the camera. I rolled back to 2.2.x and all is fine again. I will try installing the 2.3.x and start debugging as soon as I have a chance. Akemi ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: nikon coolpix 4500Hmmm...I got my 'new' (used) CP4500 today from EBay, and one of the first things I did was upgrade the firmware (as mentioned on http://gphoto.org/doc/remote/), and then proceeded to try gphoto2. Much to my chagrin, I also discovered that the unit would stop responding after each gphoto2 request. I had assumed (without really checking) that the 4500 had been around long enough for all the 'kinks' to be worked out. Now I did what I should have done in the first place, and checked this newsgroup :) So, is any progress being made on returning gphoto2 back to a fully-working condition with the newest versions of gphoto2? I *love* this software and it makes me sad to see this! Thanks |

Rather than start a new thread, I posted my findings/request on the original thread. According to him, the CP4500 worked fine in version 2.2 and 2.3, but not 2.4. I have no way to confirm that, but I believe it. The second one (the hanging one) is usually caused by the *previous* call not correctly terminating or hanging the protocol stack. This previous trace would be interesting. Re: nikon coolpix 4500Well, I don't know if it would be appropriate (or appreciated) for me to post an *entire* debug session, but I did opt to re-test -- this time repeating over and over again till I had a success followed by a failure -- capturing each along the way. Time is spent reading 'ObjectInfo' for each pic on the flash card each time, but rather than taking about 0.1 seconds for each pic (the first time), it appears to take about 0.7 seconds (subsequent times). Re: nikon coolpix 4500Hi,
I'm trying to test the gphoto2 with the Nikon CP4500 again but I'm having I/O problems. The software detects the camera but it is unable to perform any operation. This is the debug log I got: 1.216719 gphoto2-port-usb(1): Looking for USB device (vendor 0x4b0, product 0x10b)... found. 1.216762 gphoto2-port-usb(2): inep to look for is 83 1.216800 gphoto2-port-usb(1): Detected defaults: config 1, interface 0, altsetting 0, inep 83, outep 04, intep 81, class 06, subclass 01 1.216843 gphoto2-abilities-list.c(2): Found 'Nikon Coolpix 4500 (PTP mode)' (0x4b0,0x10b) 1.216901 gphoto2-port(2): Freeing port... 1.216949 gphoto2-port(2): Closing port... 1.217232 gphoto2-camera(2): Setting abilities ('Nikon Coolpix 4500 (PTP mode)')... 1.217295 gphoto2-setting(2): Setting key 'model' to value 'Nikon Coolpix 4500 (PTP mode)' (gphoto2) 1.217350 gphoto2-setting(2): Saving 3 setting(s) to file "/home/fabian/.gphoto/settings" 1.217688 gphoto2-port-info-list(2): Looking for path 'usb:' (11 entries available)... 1.217749 gphoto2-port-info-list(2): Getting info of entry 3 (11 available)... 1.217795 gphoto2-camera(2): Setting port info for port 'Universal Serial Bus' at 'usb:'... 1.219712 gphoto2-port(2): Setting timeout to 5000 millisecond(s)... 1.219781 gphoto2-port(2): Setting settings... 1.219824 libusb(2): gp_port_usb_update(old int=0, conf=-1, alt=-1), (new int=0, conf=-1, alt=-1) 1.219873 gphoto2-setting(2): Setting key 'port' to value 'usb:' (gphoto2) 1.219918 gphoto2-setting(2): Saving 3 setting(s) to file "/home/fabian/.gphoto/settings" 1.220265 gphoto2-camera(2): Initializing camera... 1.220365 gphoto2-port-usb(1): Looking for USB device (vendor 0x4b0, product 0x10b)... found. 1.220409 gphoto2-port-usb(2): inep to look for is 83 1.220447 gphoto2-port-usb(1): Detected defaults: config 1, interface 0, altsetting 0, inep 83, outep 04, intep 81, class 06, subclass 01 1.220489 gphoto2-camera(2): Loading '/usr/local/lib/libgphoto2/2.4.1/ptp2'... 1.221074 gphoto2-port(2): Opening USB port... 1.221129 libusb(2): gp_port_usb_open() 1.221246 libusb(2): claiming interface 0 1.221336 ptp2(2): maxpacketsize 64 1.221446 gphoto2-port(2): Setting timeout to 8000 millisecond(s)... 1.221499 ptp(2): PTP: Opening session 1.221553 gphoto2-port(2): Writing 16=0x10 byte(s) to port... 1.221605 gphoto2-port(3): Hexdump of 16 = 0x10 bytes follows: 0000 10 00 00 00 01 00 02 10-00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ................ 9.222932 ptp2/usb_sendreq(2): request code 0x1002 sending req result -35 9.223077 ptp2/camera_init(0): ptp_opensession returns 2ff 9.223124 ptp2/device_reset_request(2): sending reset 9.223178 gphoto2-port(2): Writing message (request=0x66 value=0x0 index=0x0 size=0=0x0)... 9.223249 gphoto2-port(3): No hexdump (NULL buffer) 9.223946 ptp(2): PTP: Opening session 9.224072 gphoto2-port(2): Writing 16=0x10 byte(s) to port... 9.224127 gphoto2-port(3): Hexdump of 16 = 0x10 bytes follows: 0000 10 00 00 00 01 00 02 10-00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ................ 17.225121 ptp2/usb_sendreq(2): request code 0x1002 sending req result -35 17.225250 ptp2/camera_init(0): ptp_opensession returns 2ff 17.225295 ptp2/device_reset_request(2): sending reset 17.225336 gphoto2-port(2): Writing message (request=0x66 value=0x0 index=0x0 size=0=0x0)... 17.225408 gphoto2-port(3): No hexdump (NULL buffer) 17.226116 ptp(2): PTP: Opening session 17.226169 gphoto2-port(2): Writing 16=0x10 byte(s) to port... 17.226220 gphoto2-port(3): Hexdump of 16 = 0x10 bytes follows: 0000 10 00 00 00 01 00 02 10-00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 ................ 25.227364 ptp2/usb_sendreq(2): request code 0x1002 sending req result -35 25.227494 ptp2/camera_init(0): ptp_opensession returns 2ff 25.227539 ptp2/device_reset_request(2): sending reset 25.227580 gphoto2-port(2): Writing message (request=0x66 value=0x0 index=0x0 size=0=0x0)... 25.227654 gphoto2-port(3): No hexdump (NULL buffer) 25.228410 context(0): PTP I/O error 25.228518 gphoto2-port(2): Closing port... 25.236557 context(0): An error occurred in the io-library ('Unspecified error'): No error description available 25.237535 gp-camera(2): Freeing camera... 25.237591 gphoto2-port(2): Freeing port... 25.237638 gphoto2-port(2): Closing port... 25.237776 libgphoto2/gphoto2-filesys.c(2): Clearing fscache LRU list... 25.237819 libgphoto2/gphoto2-filesys.c(2): fscache LRU list already empty 25.237859 gphoto2-filesystem(2): Internally deleting all folders from '/'...
