netwifimicroSD not recognizedHi,
I've started working with a new Verdex/netwifimicroSD setup, and I haven't found any way to get the system to recognize the wireless controller. Ethernet works fine, but there's no record of the wifi controller in dmesg, aside from two "module initializing \n module loaded"-ish lines when mcf25 is loaded. Nothing's creating any interfaces other than eth0 and lo. I've tried the shipped system software (from April) and the current one on the Gumstix website (from May). Neither one picks up the controller. The wireless sub-board is seated securely, and it runs really hot. Any thoughts, or is this just a bad card? I don't have access to the Gumstix right now, but I (and a friend) believe there were two lights between the ethernet port and the wifi module, and only one (the orange one, I think) lit up. - Ken ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! Re: netwifimicroSD not recognizedHi Ken,
The wireless transmitter does get quite hot...so that means that it's (probably) working...There are a lot of strings on setting up the wireless. It is specific to your router and wireless system though. Do know if you are using WEP or WPA encryption on your router? ~Shane -----Original Message----- From: Ken Tossell [mailto:kennyt@...] Sent: Wednesday, July 09, 2008 7:27 PM To: Shane Kirkbride Cc: General mailing list for gumstix users.; Ken Tossell Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] netwifimicroSD not recognized On Wed, July 9, 2008 6:50 pm, Shane Kirkbride wrote: > Hi Ken, > upon start up do you see your blue light flashing at all? ~Shane I don't remember any blue lights. Re: netwifimicroSD not recognizedIf you go into your etc/network/interfaces and add this to the top line of
the file auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp pre-up /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 key <YOUR KEY> key open essid <YOUR SSID> txpower 200 auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp That's how we got the wireless to work...but we are using WEP it's different for WPA; I think... There's no wlan0, so there's no way to configure it to connect to a network. - Ken ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! I'm trying to decide whether to RMA just the wifi module or to send back the netmicroSD board, too. It'd be good to be able to use ethernet before this is worked out.
