missing /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth

Hi

I have an X60 laptop, and I'm trying to get Bluetooth working under
Ubuntu 8.04. My computer behaves as though it has no bluetooth adapter
at all. I've traced the problem back to the fact that there is
no /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth (or wan) file, which I guess means that
thinkpad_acpi isn't detecting the bluetooth system for some reason. Can
anyone help me work out why that could be? There are other files in
there, and the thinkpad-acpi kernel module is loaded.

The hardware switch is set to enable, of course, and Fn+F5 just disables
my wireless internet connection without changing bluetooth.

thanks!

Are you sure there is a bluetooth adaptor at all? Can you paste the
output of:

lsmod | grep hci_usb

and

sudo lsusb

Yes, bluetooth is built into the computer. I can boot into Windows and use it, so it definitely exists.

$ lsmod | grep hci_usb
hci_usb                19228  0
bluetooth              67748  6 hci_usb,bnep,rfcomm,l2cap
usbcore               169904  5 hci_usb,usbhid,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd

$ sudo lsusb
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 06a2:0033 Topro Technology, Inc. USB Mouse
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

$ ls /proc/acpi/ibm
beep  cmos  driver  fan  hotkey  led  light  thermal  video  volume

thanks!

Hm.  I'd try going into the BIOS setup and looking for an option to
enable the built-in bluetooth.

I'm not sure it would help, but it's worth a try.  The integrated wifi
didn't work on my T61 until I set "Internal Wireless Radio Frequency"
to "On" in my BIOS setup.

I would suggest re-naming "rmbdd()". I _assume_ that "dd" stands for "data
dependent", but quite frankly, "rmbdd" looks like the standard IBM "we
lost every vowel ever invented" kind of assembly lanaguage to me.

Check the BIOS configuration, it can be disabled there, and if it is,
nothing will find it at runtime.
