lirc 0.8.2 and kernel 2.6.25

Hello all,

I'd like to know if lirc 0.8.2 can work with kernel 2.6.25.
I see that 0.8.3 is supporting 2.6.25, but is the older version really
insufficient?

The reason for asking is that 0.8.3 is not packaged yet for debian (
today 28/06/2008 at least)
And I'm seeing problematic behaviour both with a hauppauge (lirc_i2c)
remote and with a microsoft (lirc_usbmce2) remote.

With the hauppauge lircd crashes when irw tries to connect.

With the microsoft remote, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't.
rebooting sometimes fixes things sometimes doesn't.. (as you see I
still haven't found a pattern.) When it is not working, irw does
connect correctly, but it just doesn't show the keypresses.

Regards,

Bert

Yep, that'd be one of the things fixed in 0.8.3. An i2c interface
changed from 2.6.24 to 2.6.25, requiring the changes in 0.8.3 to prevent
lirc_i2c from crashing and burning.

Dunno what's up with that one offhand.

Thanks for the answer on the hauppauge remote. Debian ships the 0.8.3
packages now. However they don't seem to improve the philips microsoft
MCE remote. With 0.8.3 I have the same effect:
The driver installs OK,
Lircd starts OK.
When pressing a key on the remote, the led in the receiver lights up OK.
But irw does not show any output...(not OK;-(
I can't find any debugging information to help me further.

The problem started when I switched from 0.8.0 to 0.8.2. But then I
also upgraded the rest of the system, so I can't be sure. What could
have changed, that causes this problem?

Regards,

Bert
