It sounds like you may want to request a developer role for the Abeille project if you haven't already done so. Feel free to do that and I will definitely accept the request.<br>

From that point I think you will be able to perform a checkout of the codebase. <br>

Our standard proceedure on the Abeille project is to provide each developer with their own private branch. You can very easily add your changes into that branch and then merging/planning becomes much easier for us as a whole. With that private branch you can feel completely free to check in whenever you'd like and then you can let me know that you'll be merging, etc (or I can handle it if the effort is not major).<br>

Please email me back if you would like your own private branch for which you and/or your team can have access to. Also...can you confirm what source code you have made your changes against? Did you originally download a 2.0 or M1 codebase? (this will assist me in know where to baseline from.<br>

I've had a variety of chat conversations with George from the team in bulgaria. Those of been very good and there was lenghty discussion on I18N support in future releases. These I would formalize and had planned on passing on to you for your input and feedback also and then for open discussion on the dev mailing list (I want at least a somewhat orderly baseline set of requirements and suggestions for discussion to build upon). <br>

Other good news. I have another project team that have pending contributions that initiated with me last week. So there's definitely solid activity and new functionality that simply needs to be coordinated for inclusion at the appropriate time.<br>

Allow me to introduce you to the naming convention, which is quite simple. In the name, you will find all the information required to understand the status of the branch; it tells you:<br>
- the module (right now there is only one module called "abeille")<br>- the version at which the branch was opened (the first part of the branch always corresponds to a module/version tagged in the repository)<br>
- who (individual or group) is working against that branch<br><br>It goes like this: [module]_[version]_[branchname]. Your branch, as an example is named abeille_2-1-0M3_george. Eventually, you might reach a point at which you would like to freeze the code (either you reached a milestone or simply want to make big changes and be able to rollback them if something goes wrong). In this case, we apply a "freeze tag", simply a tag with the full branch name to which we add a number, ex.: abeille_2-1-0M3_george_01. That's pretty much it for code management. I'll explain how we proceed with merges once we get there.<br>
<br>You will need the developper status in the project to be able to commit any changes, otherwise you will need to send patches to either me or Todd so we can commit the changes in the cvs repository. In either case, it is important that the changes work against version 2.1.0m3. The first thing you can do to achieve this is probably to create a patch against the version you started from (2.0?) then try to merge that patch to the version in your branch. Let me know if you have any problem doing this.<br>

Good morning! :) Below is the email I received from George this morning. (read at your leisure)<br>

In the mean time I think it most prudent to create a branch for George and his team as well. Their working against that branch will ease the merge efforts moving forward.<br>

I most definitely want to move to SVN. That is high on my list. As I've thought about it a bit more I'm thinking to tackle that issue first. Stay with java.net as our hosting and see out it goes for a while (and try to explore and push more exposure). If that isn't as successful as we'd like we can make the bigger leap of switching out open source hosting.<br>

Thoughts are my thoughts for now. Thanks again for handling the branching....I DID update my dev environment last night to now develope against the branch you created for me!<br>

Let's start a serious discussion on what would be entailed to move the project to Sourceforge. I may need to talk to one of the contacts at Sun to see if there are any complications related to moving it. (I would hope not...but we'll see). I would gladly take time to research this further...but with being swamped I'm trying to hammer out the last stages of work on these projects I'm trying to wrap up.<br>

<u>To get you up to speed on a couple of items I've followed up on (since our least correspondance):<br>

1) The CVS vs SVN issues. I did a bit of research and <a href="http://java.net" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">java.net</a> it turns out DOES have support for SVN. I have contacted Sun and their leads at <a href="http://java.net" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">java.net</a> and am waiting to hear back from them. I have for feedback as to the process we would need to follow to get our codebase migrated to SVN. I explained our concerns with performance of CVS, etc.<br>

2) I enquired about possibly moving away from <a href="http://java.net" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">java.net</a> as the hosting point for the Abeille project. I told them it wasn't in stone yet...and that we are in discussions. However, if there is a change we make I don't want Abeille left unmanaged on <a href="http://java.net" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">java.net</a>. <br>

Leaving it unmanaged could damage the reputation of the project by leaving visitors with the impression that the project is no longer maintained, and that would be disastrous and in opposition with the goal of moving.<br>
