jack midi and sysex question

hey there,

I want to develop an remote preset editor for a sampler.
Currently I am investigating my options (toolkit, midi
backend).

For the MIDI part it would be better to use jack instead of
directly using alsa, because jack is portable.

So, my questions would be: is jacks midi backend capable of
sending/receiving lots of SysEx messages of variable size?
If so, is there a minimum jack version that I need,
anything else i should be aware of when using jack for
this?

I will developing on linux, but someday that app should
work on mac and probably windows too.
.

Thank you,
Jan

JACK is portable, but JACK MIDI has no "bridges" to non-JACK MIDI (e.g.
hardware MIDI ports) on any platform other than Linux at present. its
not particularly hard to create them, but it has not been done (yet).
