jTextField, formattedTextField and null values

I am curious - how do you all out there zero or make null your text fields
then check for values?

I home text fields. I'm checking for values (to determine if I add NULL or a
valule to a query) and am getting this as the value "  ".

That's quote, two spaces and quote.

If something IS typed in the box, I'm getting that value.
