Looks interesting and I'll investigate.
Creative Commons BY-SA: this allows commercial use as long as attribute is given and derived works are under same license.
We have plans for a flexible web api that can be used to get symbols and category groups in a variety of formats. Were also thinking about funding for this so if you have any ideas .....
Gary can give more details but AFAIK the next 500 are in the pipeline and more will follow subject to availability and funding etc. A list of candidate icons is being worked on and we also have more people interested in being involved in the review process.
Sure, let me get opera going. -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology Software web: fullmeasure.co.uk blog: eduspaces.net/stevelee/weblog |

Mulberry by-sa RDF licencePlease find attached an rdf by-sa licence that needs attribution content. I'm concerned that this information is not in the SVG files currently available. requires attribution in the manner specified by the author.... Please can you provide something you consider suitable asap? thanks again <metadata> <rdf:RDF xmlns="http://creativecommons.org/ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"> <Work rdf:about="http://www.peepo.co.uk/icon-ark/vegetable.svgz/"> <dc:title>Vegetables</dc:title> <dc:description>simple icons of common vegetables in colour with text title</dc:description> <license rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/" /> </Work> <License rdf:about="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/"> <requires rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Attribution" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Reproduction" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Distribution" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/DerivativeWorks" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/CommercialUse" /> </License> </rdf:RDF> </metadata> |

Re: Mulberry by-sa RDF licenceThanks Jonathan, we do wish to add metadata, not just for
machine/search readability but also as we want to carry the licence with the media so it does not get lost and all users are aware of the details. We want to do this with all provided media formats, including binary like PNG and JPEG which AFAIK do not support metadata. (see tracker http://straight-street.com/tracker/view.php?id=28) The CC sight doesn't seem to mention binary formats at all apart from marking the website where they are published (or adding text to a printed document). We will also probably use the UK:England and Wales Jurisdiction licences, but it is not at all clear on the CC site what this adds or indeed my there is not just one CC licence? Does any one have any advice on these issues? -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology Software web: fullmeasure.co.uk blog: eduspaces.net/stevelee/weblog On 08/06/2008, Jonathan Chetwynd <j.chetwynd@...> wrote: > Steve, > > Please find attached an rdf by-sa licence that needs attribution content. > > I'm concerned that this information is not in the SVG files currently > available. > > http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ > requires attribution in the manner specified by the author.... > > Please can you provide something you consider suitable asap? > > thanks again > > > > > > > > Jonathan Chetwynd > > j.chetwynd@... > http://www.openicon.org/ > > +44 (0) 20 7978 1764 > > > <metadata> > > > <rdf:RDF xmlns="http://creativecommons.org/ns#" > xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" > > xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"> > <Work > rdf:about="http://www.peepo.co.uk/icon-ark/vegetable.svgz/"> > <dc:title>Vegetables</dc:title> > <dc:description>simple icons of common vegetables in colour with text > title</dc:description> > <license > rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/" > /> > </Work> > <License > rdf:about="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/"> > <requires > rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Attribution" /> > <permits > rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Reproduction" /> > <permits > rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Distribution" /> > <permits > rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/DerivativeWorks" > /> > <permits > rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/CommercialUse" /> > </License> > </rdf:RDF> > > </metadata> |

Re: Mulberry by-sa RDF licenceSteve, please find attached my best efforts to meet your requirements. please confirm that you agree the attribution and licence. I have already stated that I would hope that you would host similar chunked files on your site. and that I believe public domain suits our needs better, as explained more fully in private correspondence. kind regards example chunked SVG file: http://www.openicon.org/icon-ark/mulberry/fruit.svgz <metadata> <rdf:RDF xmlns="http://creativecommons.org/ns#" xmlns:cc="http://web.resource.org/cc/" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"> <Work rdf:about="http://www.openicon.org/icon-ark/mulberry/fruit.svg" > <cc:attributionURL rdf:resource="http://straight-street.com/"/> <dc:title>Fruits</dc:title> <dc:description>simple icons of common fruits in colour with text title</dc:description> <license rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/uk/" /> </Work> <License rdf:about="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/uk/"> <requires rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Attribution" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Reproduction" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/Distribution" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/DerivativeWorks" /> <permits rdf:resource="http://web.resource.org/cc/CommercialUse" /> </License> </rdf:RDF> </metadata> |

The API we are working on is likely to provide these sort of services. It would be good to get a clearer idea of how exactly you propose to use such category 'groups' so we can see if any other features should be added as well. -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology Software web: fullmeasure.co.uk blog: eduspaces.net/stevelee/weblog |

Re: Mulberry by-sa RDF licencetags as descriptions are all very well if there are the symbols for them, otherwise they are useless to our users. similarly a style description is great, but an example is better, bear in mind that your designer's style is but one of many. now my fruit category graphic is a holder, waiting for your icon designer, in combination possibly with others to decide which category icons will be most useful and easily understood. I've no doubt at all that their output if tested with users will immediately improve on #fruit. "chalk" is the grand concept for an easy to use online authoring tool, there is roadmap of sorts, but it's a long way off, much related to developing a new svg microformat and standard. the two modules under development are a search engine and irc communication module: http://www.openicon.org best wishes On 9 Jun 2008, at 13:59, Steve Lee wrote:
