how to use qkeystate ?

Can someone tell me the correct form for using wd 'qkeystate' ? If I do

  wd 'qkeystate 13;'

the response is 00; if I do

  wd 'qkeystate 135;'

I get 000, suggesting that each character in the argument to
qkeystate is being responded to, not key-13 (= RETURN)  or key-135 (= F-24).
