Hi

 

I have always used Audacity on my old system running windows XP with no problems. Now you have a Vista compatible system I could not of been happier.

 

However , my new system has a sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC and for some reason the program can not see my sound card to enable me to record direct from the sound card. It works fine with Mic though.

Please note on Vista you have to choose your input sources (such as "stereo
Mix" or similar for recording the computer sound output) in the "Recording
Device" dropdown in the Audio I/O tab of Audacity Preferences. The Mixer
Toolbar dropdown selector is redundant under Vista. Also it is quite common
on Vista systems to have to enable "stereo mix" in the Windows Control
Panel before you can record from it.

You will find there in Section 3.4 "Control Panel issues" some help if you need
to go into the Control Panel to enable "stereo mix". Don't forget to turn its
input volume up while you are in the Control Panel. You should of course be
able to adjust the input volume in Audacity, though if the problem you are
having with stereo mix is due to not having the most up to date and
appropriate sound drivers, you may have to make input selection and volume
adjustments in the Control Panel. We do recommend using Device Manager
to check that your sound drivers are up-to-date, non-generic ones - the Wiki
page above has help on doing that.
