Can someone suggest a good eclipse plugin that will allow me to design and maintain screens in a visual fashion. As far as I can tell the VE project has been abanodoned.

Thanks

use netbeans.  :)

It really has a good visual for screens and if you are really stuck on eclipse, you can always create an eclipse project after creating your netbeans project and designing your screens.

I downloaded netbeans and was not able to see how to use a screen designer for an existing project.

netbeans does have a nice drag & drop, vb-like Swing form creator however I don't think it will work with existing project

If you're thinking of Matisse, then you're right - it is a nice drag and drop designer, but it uses a .form file that parallels the .java file containing the Swing code (example MainScreen.java and MainScreen.form) so you can't really use it with an existing interface.

If you're starting from scratch you can create a new Desktop app and inherit nice GUI stuff like a menu bar, status bar, remembering the size and position of the main windos, etc.

Hope this helps,
Burk

I don't know of any plug-in or IDE that allows you to import an existing GUI application into its framework.  Usually you have to start with the IDE when building your project.

changed subject line...

I have a group of rockstar caliber java friends cranking on a Flex
project right now and loving it.  They did consider both the Silverlight
& AJAX models for this application but when with Flex due to its
maturity level and a desire to build a killer "desktop" like app that is
deployed via the browser.

Now, Flex does assume a particular type of development paradigm.  It is
more akin to VB or PowerBuilder than Swing/SWT.   I suspect there are a
number of Java development teams that would struggle with the "learning
curve".

In any case, I've been thinking of asking of the Adobe folks to Atlanta
and give us the hardcore deep dive.

I think they'd be more than happy; James Ward from Adobe is a friend
