Hi gang,
I've got my laptop (OSX leopard intel) set up to route audio through a digi 003.  I can, for example, have Max use it, just fine.

I also have a .rtcmix in my home directory with the line:

device = "Digidesign HW ( HD ):0-7,0-7"

But it refuses to use anything but my built-ins.  When I play a file, I see the device in my Sound Prefs change itself from "Digidesign HW ( 003)" to "Internal Speakers."  I don't know how to see what device RTcmix thinks it's using.

Also tried with device line "Digidesign HW ( 003 )".

Any tips?  Once I get this solved I'll have some surround questions... :)

UPDATE:

I added the device with set_option in a file, and it (sort of) works.  So:

How do I get rtcmix to read .rtcmix?  Is there a path setting somewhere I'm missing?

Also, when I play my stereo file, I hear both channels come through the left front speaker, even though I get amp output stats for 2 channels.  Any ideas why I get this behavior?

Thanks,
Neil

Hey Neil,

First thing is to find out what the interface looks like to CoreAudio.
In the shell, in the top level of the rtcmix directory, do this...

cd test/coreaudioprobe
make
./coreaudioprobe

Then paste the text it spits out into an email to the list.

It just knows.  ;-)

If you've got the .rtcmixrc file in your home directory, that's all
it takes.

Oh, and it's ".rtcmixrc", not ".rtcmix".

But I think your audio problem might be something else -- thus my
earlier message.

I seem to remember Aaron Stepp having this problem -- sound coming
out only one channel? Aaron?

Update on this thread, in case anyone stumbles on it.  My machine reads .rtcmixrc just fine.  I had my device initially as "Digidesign HW ( 003 )", which I had to change to "Digidesign HW ( 003 ):0-7,0-7", and now I get stereo out instead of mono.
