I'm still having this problem.

Here is some information I didn't notice when I first reported the bug:

While I did confirm that unsetting SSH_AUTH_SOCK does restore
connectivity, I was not aware that:

SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-XnTwx31250/agent.31250

with

bsass@onegee:~$ ls -l /tmp
total 0
drwx------ 2 bsass bsass 60 Oct 5 18:18 ssh-XnTwx31250
bsass@onegee:~$ ls -l /tmp/ssh*
total 0
srw------- 1 bsass bsass 0 Oct 5 18:18 agent.31250

where

$ ps -p 31250
  PID TTY TIME CMD
31250 ? 00:00:00 startkde

and perhaps most importantly, the upgrade is happening via dselect
running in a KDE Konsole session while there are open ssh sessions to a
couple other boxes on the LAN.

Here is the strace I sent to Colin earlier:

I think this is the interesting bit...
---
write(2, "debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT r"..., 42debug1:
SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received) = 42
socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 4
fcntl64(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE,
path="/tmp/ssh-sdhZIS2748/agent.2748"...}, 110) = 0
write(4, "\0\0\0\1"..., 4) = 4
write(4, "\v"..., 1) = 1
read(4, ^C <unfinished ...>
---

...but here is the entire trace just in case it is not the whole story:
---
bsass@onegee:~$ strace ssh -X -v -v -v smokie
execve("/usr/bin/ssh", ["ssh", "-X", "-v", "-v", "-v", "smokie"], [/* 39

Bug#343896: HP ilo ssh support

Hi,

This is a status update on #343896, regarding openssh-client support when
connecting to HP integrated Lights Out management processors.

As of October 1, 2008:

* The latest firmware version for ilo1 is 1.92 (9 May 2008) and it works
properly with recent versions of openssh-client. However it still uses the
"mpSSH_0.0.1" version string, so it's not possible for openssh to
differentiate. I don't know if they plan to fix this one, given it's age
they may no longer care (although there are still tons of them deployed).

* The latest firmware version for ilo2 is 1.61 (B) (26 Sep 2008) and it
works properly with recent versions of openssh-client. It also now uses a
new version string of "mpSSH_0.1.0" which may help in differentiating the
problem versions.

Thanks,

--

openssh fails to support the nonstrip DEB_BUILD_OPTION as described in
policy 4.9.1.

While dh_strip handles this correctly by default, binaries are still
stripped because upstream's build system strips them when configure is

As dh_strip already does the stripping, I suggest just adding
--disable-strip unconditionally to the configure call:

Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:5.1p1-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

we have quite a few HP ProCurve 2810 Switches, with SSH management
enabled, and disabled banners.

With openssh-client from etch, I can ssh to the switch fine; with the
new openssh-client from lenny, this fails:

# ssh swge01 -lroot
xmalloc: zero size

With -v, it shows the remote version as:
debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version
OpenSSH_3.7.1p2
debug1: match: OpenSSH_3.7.1p2 pat OpenSSH_3.*

Seems like OpenSSH upstream already has a patch:
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1496

Maybe we can get this into lenny?

Thanks,
Christian

Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:5.1p1-2
Severity: minor

When running ssh-vulnkey -a on a system with no compromised keys, I used
to get no output. I would argue this to be the correct behaviour. Now, however I get

#
# See the ssh-vulnkey(1) manual page for further advice.

which is an entirely superfluous, and even misleading message as it
would seem to suggest there is something wrong that reading the manpage
might explain. Anyone with half a brain operating a Debian system with
ssh enabled should know not only to read this man page, but also the
scores of other information about how to mitigate this vulnerability.

This is also very inconvienient for running ssh-vulnkey -a in cron,
which must now filter out this message so it doesn't email root when
there's nothing wrong.
