When aquamacs-backward-kill-word is called, an error message comes back:
"The mark is not set now, so there is no region"
When I hit the key to which this function is assigned while in the  
minibuffer,
then a debugger is entered.


In GNU Emacs 22.2.50.2 (powerpc-apple-darwin9.3.0, Carbon Version 1.6.0)

That's a known (but not very common) problem with the release.
Could you try a nightly build from http://aquamacs.org/nightlies.shtml 
to see if the problem goes away?
