Hi,

I am using the kernel 2.6.

http://www.acmesystems.it/articles/00033/zydas.pdf

I want to use the zydas 1211 USB WLAN dongle and I did it in the way
mentioned in the documentation.

$ ifconfig

[root@axis-00408c011558 /etc/conf.d]104#
[root@axis-00408c011558 /etc/conf.d]104# ifconfig

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:8C:01:15:58
inet addr:192.168.178.210 Bcast:192.168.178.255
Mask:255.255.25
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:577 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:261 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:49283 (48.1 KiB) TX bytes:46654 (45.5 KiB)
Interrupt:17 DMA chan:1

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

I expected a new interface device: eg. eth1 (for the zd1211)

Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: |__ / _| _ \ / \ / ___|
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: / / | | | | | |/ _ \ \___ \
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: / /| |_| | |_| / ___ \ ___) |
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: /____\__, |____/_/ \_\____/
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: |___/
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: ZD1211B - version 2.16.0.0
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: vendor_id = 0ace
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: product_id = 1215
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: USB 1.1 Host
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: Release Ver = 4810
Jan 1 00:02:12 axis-00408c011558 kernel: EEPORM Ver = 4810

The kernel module was already loaded, but I cannot configure the
missing network device.

Any ideas?

best regards Michael

Hi,

have you tried to plug the card off and in again? Sometimes this brings the
device up, which doesn't mean that it will work afterwards, but at least it
may be there.

Moreover it seems that you are using a different driver not the one that's in
the kernel, if I understand the manual, that you linked to, correctly. So
maybe you are asking the wrong people here.

Greets
