Wireless RouterHello All,
Quick question, I would like to purchase a new wireless router with a USB port so my wife and I can more easily backup our files. So far Linksys seems to be the only game in town, is anyone familiar with another manufacturer? I'm kind of surprised USB isn't more ubiquitous on the high end home routers. Thanks, Anthony -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@... http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss |

Re: Wireless RouterUSB isn't typically a networking interface, so I assume that's why
:-). Routers are layer3 devices. USB is layer1. It sounds like you want a NAS device... RE: Wireless RouterI found three devices that had the capability I was looking for, Linksys
{wrt350n, wrt600n} and an Apple airport. I ended up purchasing the Linksys WRT350n for $109 on newegg - that's a really good price for that router, and I current have and like my Linksys wrt300n. What I wanted/needed was a router with a USB port so I could plug my external USB HD directly into it and my wife and I could back our files up with little effort. We only have laptops and I don't have the space for lots of equipment, so I want to accomplish what I need with the smallest set of hardware possible. So, with that said, yes I did want a NAS device - I just wanted the router to handle it... Any time you're looking for wireless hardware, models and specs, just hit the OpenWRT wiki: http://wiki.openwrt.org/TableOfHardware It's not always up to date, but it's pretty close. Asus makes a few reasonably priced wireless routers with USB. -ben -- you never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. <william blake> -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@... http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss |
