Does your printer work in cups? I.e., can you print from firefox? Did

CUPS Printers not showing up in wine (notepad et al)

I compiled and installed wine 1.1.8 (from src from winehq) probably 4 months ago...ish. I never tried printing until today after I installed MathCAD.

My printer (which normally shows up in Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit) doesn't show up at all in wine. MathCAD and notepad both threw an error "Install a printer before trying to print" <- not exact quote. I tried installing bullzip pdf printer, which installed fine, but this was the result when I tried to print from it:

Installs fine (set windows version to 9x), but when installing, checks your
system for compatibility (windows version, memory, etc.). All tests pass,
except apparently we don't support 256 colors...Wine only supports 1 (wonder
what color it is?).

AMD64 vs i86...

This may be a silly question...but...

Currently I'm running the amd64 release of Ubuntu 8.10, and I am using Wine with minimal issue. I really only use Wine for one program, Final Fantasy XI. Following the directions step by step in the AppDB I got it running...acceptably.

There are still some framerate issues when I am in a crowded area in the game, and I was wondering...

Has anyone noticed a difference in performance with Wine (especially when running Windows games) running Wine with a 32-bit Linux distro vs a 64bit Distro?

Problem still persists in wine 1.1.9, although rather than giving a dialog of
the crash, the crash just freezes Wine.
I am able to minimize the game window, ending up in 640x480 resolution, but the
game simply freezes within seconds of getting to the diplomat screen.

In addition, a sound annoyance is found within the screen with the voice
soundbytes on all campaigns.
Whenever the soundfile for the explanation of the mission, the tutorial voice,
and voices for the units in-game and other system voices are played, they will
sound off a heavy 'white noise' as if the soundfile was trying to play a small
bit of data interwoven with the audio file or was otherwise corrupt.
The whole file does play, but it's quite an annoyance to constantly be
interrupted with rather painful white noise.

Yep, slow as hell in git. See this repeatedly:

with NULL material !!!

implemented yet

This was also printed before game started/after canceled.
err:d3d_surface:d3dfmt_p8_init_palette This code should never get entered for
DirectDraw!, expect problems
