Windows port: spell checking and bogofilter.

As someone who has had to move back to MS Windows (because there's no
Linux drivers or software for some pretty cool hardware I bought) I
much appreciate the porting efforts to that platform. I tried a recent
beta version, but found I really need spell checking and the bogofilter
plugin. So I reluctantly removed it.

I tried Forte Agent, The Bat, and Eudora (Penelope). None of which
compare to claws-mail (IMHO). So now I run CM-3.5.0 on Mandriva-2008.1
in Sun's VirtualBox-2.0.2 on Windows XP SP3 and as a bonus I get to use
some of the other Linux tools I came to love.

Looking forward to a port which can do everything it does in an Linux
environment, of course, but in the mean time I'm quite happy to use it
in the way described above. Thanks.

It's harder to port stuff with dependancies. I am, for example, unaware
of a Bogofilter Windows port.

Yes; I tried to cross-build it, but it failed. Maybe I'll look into a
win32-specific antispam plugin, if it's not too much hassle.

For spell checker, I don't know if I'll do it: it will require
to crossbuild enchant, aspell, and to ship enchant, aspell, and aspell
dictionaries (which are huge).

Though being sub-optimal, Windows folks can always use anti-spam tools
that don't require integration with the MUA. Ages ago, I was using
SpamPal on Windows. This tool acts like a proxy between MUA and mail
server to filter spam. It worked well back then. However, I don't know
how healthy the project still is. I also remember that setting up SSL
required extra work.

Yes, BSFilter does proxying too, for example.

aspell comes as a Win32 binary and is usually installed by users on
their own. I think Pidgin also uses aspell for spell-checking but
they don't include aspell as a package within the Pidgin installer.
In many cases, an installation of aspell might exist with the right
dictionaries or a user can be pointed to get them directly.

So the real problem is actually brought down to crossbuilding
enchant which uses aspell if available. I don't say making it work
with aspell (properly) isn't a problem, but in comparison, it's a
smaller problem. :)

I don't know how to go about this; however, there are programs on
Windows that check to see if MS-Word is installed, and if it is, they
use the MS-Word spellchecker/dictionary. I don't know if that would be
applicable here or not. I have personally used 'Mail-Washer'
<http://www.mailwasher.net/> to filter mail on my Win32
machines. It works quite well and there is a free version available.
Maybe providing a link or something to it with the installation package
might be useful.

Just go with the flow control, roll with the crunches, and, when you
get a prompt, type like hell.
