Windows Vista power onHi There,
I have a 2 x SmartUPS 1000s which power to linux boxes (SLES 10.2 and XenServer). The SLES acts as the master and the XenServer and its guests are slaves. We also have a Windows Vista client in the same rack which acts as a media server to the network, this is also a slave. Everything is working well, except: My question is, how to you power on the Vista box if the power returns after its shutdown, but before the battery is fully drained? Make sure you choose the option to power the computer on immediately after AC power is provided to the computer.Simon wrote: The other option you mentioned won't work, because if the UPS is running on battery, and the battery is nearly depleted, it will send a signal to the Vista machine to shut down. Vista will then shut down the computer and the power state is then set to off. If you then remove AC power and return it to the computer again, it will stay off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! Power Goes Off 2. UPS drains to say 10% 3. Vista box shuts down 4. UPS drains to 5% 5. Power comes back on. In this case UPS would not acually cut the power to the computer, so the BIOS would not regsiter the power recovery. Any thoughts? The way we manage this is to have at least one "server" running all the time, doesn't get shutdown by the UPS, and has wakeonlan utils installed. A small embedded box is perfect for this scenario, as they usually draw very little power, and can easily run a cut down *nix with sshd and something like etherwake installed. With apcupsd installed a power return event could fire a script to send magic packets to all the boxes you want re-started. Cheers.
