Hi,
Is there a way to Make windows 2000/XP machine think it is connected
to a APC UPS supporting smart protocol over serial line, through
"usb.exe service".

On turning on the UPS service, i can see on serial port "Y" being
sent by the PC periodically , i tried responding with "SM" but still
get message "UPS service has lost communication with UPS"
I eventually want to be able to switch off the PC through the serial port

Thanks for any help

Ajit

I have no idea what the "usb.exe service" is. If you are running the
apcupsd software package, please provide more details. If you are not
running apcupsd I recommend you ask your question on the mailing list for
whatever software you are using.

I am referring to native "Microsoft Windows" service which has the
capability to talk to APC UPS including "smart protocol"
Anyways I was able to resolve the problem: a) under power options ,
selecting the UPS as "smart UPS" b) setting the terminal
program's(teraterm)  "newline character" as CR+LF
