I wrote a small progam "Windows Driver Configurator".called setwindrv.
It is a GUI program to construct soundfont type timidity.cfg..
So it is a gtk2 application, then you may easy port it to other OSes
like Linux (or Mac OSX.)..
Souce and binary are in sourceforge

By default which use (windows)/timidity.cfg.
You can also drop your (blank) timidity.cfg on setwindrv's Icon.
