Winboard Bug with foreign letters

Dear all,

whenever I place one of the following letters or 'signs' into the
communication window the application crashes with a 'Connection closed
by ICS' message, please see atttached jpgs:

ß (german)   or   ?   or    `

Version used: v4.2.7b, playing on freechess.org (FICS). Tried to
reproduce the crash with the JavaBoard on FICS, but there was no crash.

Especially the crashes when I place 'ß' into the window I know since a
ling time, e.g. since more than four years.

Thanks and Regards,
Aleks

I took another look at your problem (I had overlooked the attachments
first time) and from your screenshot it seems that there is no crash at
all. FICS simply closes the connection, after which xboard cannot do much
more than notify the user of this fact, and exit. Which it dutifully does.

Apparently FICS doesn't like the ringel-ess. I don't think there is a fix
to this on the WinBoard side. It could intercept the strange characters
and refuse to send them, of course. But that would not help much, as it is
just as easy for you to simply refrain from typing them...

Regards,
H.G.
