It'd be a nice goal, but for me it sits firmly in the camp of full
unicode support: I don't think it's worth it on the current code
base.
As you know I've been talking about a comlete re-write, and I hope to
get time in the next few months to put together a proof of concept.
However, I wouldn't want to deter anyone else from investigating, as
it may not be as bad as I am imagining.
Furthermore I don't have a 64-bit environment to start playing with.
