        Dear colleague,

        The submission deadline for WCAT08: 5th Intl. Wokshop on
Coordination and Adaptation Techniques, associated to ASE2008
(L'Aquila, Italy, September 15, 2008) has been extended to:

                *** June 16, 2008 ***

===================================================

                        CALL FOR PAPERS

                 Fifth International Workshop on

          Coordination and Adaptation Techniques (WCAT08)

                      http://wcat.unex.es

              L’Aquila (Italy), September 15, 2008

                Held in conjunction with ASE2008

DESCRIPTION

Coordination and Adaptation are key issues when developing
software systems. Coordination focuses on the interaction among
computational entities, and adaptation on the problems raised
when these entities do not match properly. Both issues are now
central in Software Engineering research.

The goal of WCAT08 is to put together researchers and
practitioners of the aforementioned fields, to share and identify
common problems, and to devise general solutions in the context
of coordination and adaptation.

This is the fifth edition of the WCAT workshop. After four
successful editions held in conjunction with ECOOP, we have decided
to associate the workshop to ASE, since we think it covers a broader
field on Software Engineering, and it also puts a special
emphasis in automated techniques as required by adaptation.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

The successive WCAT editions addressed different general issues
related to coordination and adaptation. For the 2008 edition we
would like to address more specifically issues related to
coordination and adaptation at run-time, the implementation of
coordinators and adaptors, context-awareness and dynamical
evolution of coordination and adaptation contracts, service
composition and adaptation in pervasive computing, and autonomic
computing and self-adaptive systems.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  * interfaces, types and contracts supporting coordination and
    adaptation;
  * identification and specification of interaction requirements
    and problems;
  * extra-functional properties;
  * automatic generation of compositions or adaptors;
  * formal approaches to software adaptation;
  * coordination and adaptation of services;
  * coordination and adaptation in pervasive computing;
  * autonomic computing and self-adaptive systems;
  * relations between adaptation and the software life-cycle;
  * adaptation and MDE techniques;
  * metrics and prediction models for software coordination and
    adaptation;
  * prediction of the impacts on Quality of Service;
  * and surveys, case studies and industrial or experience reports.

IMPORTANT DATES

        Submission: June 16th 2008
        Notification: July 14th 2008
        Camera-ready: August 16th 2008
        Workshop: September 15th 2008

SUBMISSION

WCAT calls for both technical and position papers. Papers should
be up to 8 pages for technical papers, and 4 pages for position
papers, using the IEEE conference 2-columns style, and they must
indicate the paper category (technical or position), and the
authors names, affiliation and contact information. Submissions
should be sent using the workshop's electronic submission system
http://sfc.unex.es/wcat08 by June 16, 2008. All submissions will
be reviewed by the Program Committee for acceptance. Accepted
papers will be published in the proceedings of the workshop
(to appear in IEEE Xplore), and they will be also made available on
the workshop Web site.

POST-WORKSHOP PUBLICATION

In addition to the workshop proceedings, a post-workshop journal
special issue with a selection of extended technical versions of
the presented papers will be scheduled, depending on the
scientific quality of the contributions. The extended papers will
go through a formal review and selection process. Extended papers
of precedent editions have been published in L'Objet, vol.12, n.1,
2006 (WCAT'04) and ENTCS, vol.189, 2007 (WCAT'06). A special
issue of the J.UCS journal on WCAT'07 is under process (scheduled
for September 2008)
