Ukraine is UA, not UKHi all,
I've just come across the folder http://framework.zend.com/fisheye/browse/Zend_Framework/trunk/documentation/manual/uk including the Ukraine translation. I would suggest to rename the folder as UA as defined by ISO Country Codes. http://www.nw.com/zone/iso-country-codes What do you think? Simone |

Re: Ukraine is UA, not UKhttp://uk.wikipedia.org
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_language ISO 639-1 is "uk" I've copied Joseph, the lead translator for the Ukrainian translation, for further discussion. Re: Ukraine is UA, not UKBeside the joke I made before, is darbys information right.
The language code for ukrainian is uk... What Simone meant was the country code (UK/UA) which is not the language code. See here for language code: http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php See here for country code: http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/english_country_names_and_code_elements.htm#u.. So I would keep "uk", also because when you set ukrainian in your browser as preferred language the browser will send "uk" and not "ua" !! RE: Ukraine is UA, not UKHello,
So, all is correct now. "uk" language code was used according to "ISO 639-2" language codes table. Thanks for explanation, Thomas. Re: Ukraine is UA, not UKI was not aware of this information. :)
I just read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-2_codes In this case, it's fine for me as well. Simone On Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 4:35 PM, Thomas Weidner <thomas.weidner@...> wrote:

RE: Ukraine is UA, not UKI was *actually* surprised that the Ukraine needed its own code, since
my impression was that all Ukrainians are very comfortable reading documentation in Russian. I have lots of Ukrainian friends here in the states, and all of them tell me they can speak Russian much better than Ukrainian at this point. It's probably a combination of the fact that they represent the reality during the Soviet era more than today's reality and they tend to spend a lot of their time with Russians speaking Russian, but is the situation so different in the Ukraine now? Are there people who can understand docs significantly better in Ukrainian than in Russian? Just curious. Plus, I'd love to get to know some of our Ukrainian community members. :) ,Wil > -----Original Message----- > From: Thomas Weidner [mailto:thomas.weidner@...] > Sent: Tuesday, April 22, 2008 7:35 AM > To: Darby Felton; Simone Carletti > Cc: fw-docs@...; Joseph Chereshnovsky > Subject: Re: Ukraine is UA, not UK > > Beside the joke I made before, is darbys information right. > > The language code for ukrainian is uk... > What Simone meant was the country code (UK/UA) which is not the > language > code. > > See here for language code: > http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php > See here for country code: > > y_names_and_code_elements.htm#u.. > > So I would keep "uk", also because when you set ukrainian in your > browser as > preferred language the browser will send "uk" and not "ua" !! > > Greetings > Thomas Weidner, I18N Team Leader > http://www.thomasweidner.com > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Darby Felton" <darby@...> > To: "Simone Carletti" <weppos@...> > Cc: <fw-docs@...>; "Joseph Chereshnovsky" > <Joseph007@...> > Sent: Tuesday, April 22, 2008 3:50 PM > Subject: Re: Ukraine is UA, not UK > > > > http://uk.wikipedia.org > > > > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_language > > > > ISO 639-1 is "uk" > > > > I've copied Joseph, the lead translator for the Ukrainian > translation, for > > further discussion. > > > > Best regards, > > Darby > > > > Simone Carletti wrote: > >> Hi all, > >> > >> I've just come across the folder > >> > > tion/manual/uk > >> including the Ukraine translation. > >> I would suggest to rename the folder as UA as defined by ISO Country > >> Codes. > >> http://www.nw.com/zone/iso-country-codes > >> > >> What do you think? > >> > >> Simone |
