UPDATE - Improving OSP v.1 - Week 2.1

After posting this weeks round of screens, I decided to go back and make an
update to the direction.

This version is now the most current design, though it is advised to view
both Week 2.1 (to understand the broad stokes) and Week 2 (to understand the
detailed interactions).

In the absense of an OSP conference call today, Noah B., Will T. and  
myself reviewed Nathan's latest mockups (http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/confluence/x/QwN1Ag 
). Overall we liked these a lot -- these are our (very rough) notes:

* screen 1.1: Landing page with portfolios defined
    +1 for the new 'settings' column
    -1 "create new portfolio" link is obscure
    ? what does the default all view look like (we assume hide/unhide  
is shown)
    ? do we need to have the option for both my portfolios & shared  
portfolios

* screen 1: landing page with no portfolios
    +1 create new portfolio here is great
    ? do we want to count all portfolios for this? maybe as a  
configurable option

* screen 2: initial create portfolio page
    +1 on showing templates as options
    ? need scrolling if many templates available
    ? thickbox impl needed for sakai/frame implementation
      (jquery not for for frames; Noah hacked SimpleModal to work w/  
frames)

* screen 3: design portfolio page (no wizard steps!)
    +1 we all like the new layout ('hub' model)
    ? will this fit in 1024x768 screen? need to work on screen real-
estate
    ? Move 'add/edit content', 'Configure Settings', 'Share with Others'
      to horizntal tabs across the top
    ? change 'preview'  to Launch-new-window button (note preview  
currently difficult to render within a tabbed display)
    ? What is active/inactive (as opposed to current expiration?)

* screen 4: add/edit content page
    +1 no save/cancel (auto-save)?

* screen 5: configure settings

    ? How does active/inactive interact with this?

* Action Items:
1. All: review mockups against current implementation functionality

roles from all sites).

If you guys like, we can discuss on a call tomorrow (wed).  Let me know if
we can do this as it would speed things up.

Also, I'd like to start narrowing in on some delivery dates for HTML, plus
an implementation plan.  There will be a need for some design tweaks during
implementation so I want to make sure we synch our expectations so I can
schedule my time accordingly.

Following are the (rough) notes from today's conference call with  
Nathan regarding the mockups at http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/confluence/x/BwJTAg 
  (note that the previous comments are included for reference).

* screen 1.1: Landing page with portfolios defined
  +1 for the new 'settings' column
  -1 "create new portfolio" link is obscure
  ? what does the default all view look like (we assume hide/unhide is  
shown)
  ? do we need to have the option for all plus both my portfolios &  
shared portfolios?

  ** Followup (9/3) **
  -> keep "create new portfolio" link for consistency
  -> change 'always start with this tab' to pull-down select
    (i.e. what happens if use selects 'no'; default to all?)
  -> keep all three views (all, mine, shared)
  -> Change 'Settings' to 'Actions' for consistency with Resources

  +1 create new portfolio here is great
  ? do we want to count all portfolios for this? maybe as a  
configurable option

  ? need scrolling if many templates available

  -> use browser scroll-bar in case there are a lot of templates
     (though too many templates should be discouraged as too confusing)

  +1 we all like the new layout ('hub' model)
  ? will this fit in 1024x768 screen? need to work on screen real-estate
  ? Move 'add/edit content', 'Configure Settings', 'Share with Others'
    to horizontal tabs across the top
  ? change 'preview'  to Launch-new-window button (note preview  
currently difficult to render within a tabbed display)
  ? What is active/inactive (as opposed to current expiration?)

  ** Followup (9/3) **
  -> Nathan will replace 'manage & edit' & 'preview'
     with 'add/edit content', 'Configure Settings', 'Share with Others'
     to horizontal tabs across the top (and add ad-hoc preview button  
on all)
  -> maybe clarify active/inactive (and share) with sub-text
  -> maybe add a greyed-out display of inactive/shared portfolios
  -> create a confluence-like header of which portfolio this is
     change 'portfolio information' to 'portfolio details'
  -> inactive should be the default (and active should be greyed out  
until
     required info is defined)

* screen 4: add/edit content page
  +1 no save/cancel (auto-save)?

  ** Followup (9/3) **
  -> Adding a new form needs to be a separate screen because of
     technical and ascetic/screen-real-estate issues (i.e. not  
expansion option)
  -> Noah to send Nathan screen-shots of existing UM forms

* screen 5: configure settings
  ? add cancel (in addition save)

  -> Configure Option (formerly Portfolio Options) which will be a  
call-out form
  -> Cancel involves navigation -- maybe 'clear changes' or 'undo  
changes'

  ? How does active/inactive interact with this?

  -> see comments regarding active/inactive for screen 3

* Screen 6a, 6b, 6c (Week 2): Share Portfolio

  -> just type in userId or email-address for now (not name, email,  
etc) and use line-break as delineation, not comma (like worksite 'add  
participants')
  -> Beth to send Nathan a screenshot of the portfolio share screen in  
it's fullest ugliest (i.e. with groups defined and the option to show  
roles from all sites).

Next steps: Nathan to revise mockups based on above feedback, followed  
by generating html based on these mockups
