Time to stand up and show your interest-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1 Hi list, as lightzone for linux seemed really to be dead and buried, I was more than astonished that this company answered one of my emails: In october I received an announcement for a new lz version and answered that they should remove me from their mailinglist until they had something to offer for linux again. Probably not worth the time spent to write the mail, but off it went. And - I got an answer, stating that they had genuine interest in exploring the linux business and asking me some thoughtful questions about various aspects. So probably it's time to write emails to them, asking what their plans are and showing interest in this part of their (possible) business. I think it's worth the try Best regards Markus -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHNsqVxxUzQSse11ARAiTFAJ4j0/Y+IVnFZbi/vjNS4VYtOx+pWQCgiZK/ vzDplHZqBkU3k/56HrSb7MQ= =BDK0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |

Hope this is not another generic "polite shut up" post. Hope they are really thinking at least about WINE support. I'll post here if I find anything specific. -- Jacek Gozdz _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |

Re: Time to stand up and show your interestHello,
it's nice to read something new here! And it's nice to learn that LZ Linux could pop up again somewhere in the future! I've been exploring a few other photo tools recently (krita, cinepaint, gimp, anc so on) but I have kept falling back to LZ. Also, nice to see Jacek got officially involved with LightCrafts Regards Paolo On Sunday 11 November 2007 12:01:03 Jacek Gozdz wrote: > > Hi list, > > as lightzone for linux seemed really to be dead and buried, I was more > > than astonished that this company answered one of my emails: > > > > In october I received an announcement for a new lz version and answered > > that they should remove me from their mailinglist until they had > > something to offer for linux again. Well, there is Grant Kim who does most of the sales/support job and Kirby who cooperates with some users (me), and another few guys, but all of them are only working for Fabio. They are not the development team, and not the bosses (Grant may be the closest one). There is a thread on the forum (poll for linux release). Some people write there from time to time, and at least Grant visits the forum (not too often). I think it is a better policy to write there than to send emails to an individual. They will consider it as attack, not request. Their weakest point is money. They don't listen to users, they listen to paid users that want to leave, or someone who is willing to pay, but decided to invest linux based software. -- Jacek Gozdz _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |

Consider Hamrick's VueScan, and LZ efforts seem too weak to justify trust from end users of an application, willing to pay for products and services. A 17 year user of FOSS and Linux, I know it's not free ;) If LC doesn't see the Linux port as worthy by now, we Linux using folk will move on. Last thing I would do is both develop the business model and then turn around and pay for my own work! The weakest point is not money... money's cheap, a means; it's vision that's expensive, and something customers will pay others to share in that vision. rgds, Dave _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |

I'm afraid I'm put off the forum thread by some of the ill-tempered rantings and aggrieved sense of entitlement displayed there. LightCrafts didn't want to continue with LZ because they couldn't see any financial return - fine, it's a great pity but I accept that. The poll tends to bear this out (i.e. 46 out of 58 people who bothered to vote would be prepared to pay some unspecified amount - hardly inspires confidence, does it?) For the record, I'm still using LZ 2.4 as my main editor and I plan to continue doing so. Even if I bought a new, unsupported camera, I'd probably still do the initial raw conversion in Bibble and then export to LZ for "proper" editing, unless one of the free Linux editors takes a quantum leap meantime. So my money's there for the taking (although reviews of the LZ 3.x releases haven't been especially enticing - the quality of the product may currently be of greater concern than the availability of a Linux port). If you already do this (use bible to convert) you can easily upgrade 2.4 to 3.1 by just copying all java files. You will loose RAW options and GUI will look not great but you will get all the options available for linux users. It just proves how easy it is to port to linux, there are just 2 small libs that lightcrafts would have to compile for linux to give us full working latest version. -- Marcin jid: martii<at>jabber.bnet.pl uin: 2297222 Bhavatu sabba mangalam _______________________________________________ LightZone mailing list LightZone@... http://kast-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/lightzone |
