Hello from sunny Scotland,
I thought the following may interest some members of the group. The article contains pictures of the Neo air mattress in cross section. It also contains information on updates to the range for 2009.

Health, wealth and happiness to you,

A multitude of gear obsessed hikers on this list thank you Kevin!

Ever since he posted teasers here about it months ago, many of us
have been dreaming of slicing open Jerry's Thermarest mattress to see
what is inside.

Very interesting stuff, and it looks like next year we may be able to
buy our own supermattress and try to judge for ourselves whether or
not it's more comfortable than our beds at home.

Great stuff, thanks.   Don L.

No doubt! That is really cool... I was going to buy a new pad soon. Maybe now I should wait?

I for one will now withdraw my request for an autopsy.

Dicentra, if you can get along with what you already have until
(probably?) next spring when these new T-Rest ground pads are expected
to be on the market, I think you should wait.

That's _if_ they turn out to be as good as I expect them to be. Just
don't forget they aren't going to be inexpensive! :o)

I have several pads now, so I certainly don't *need* a new one.. LOL!   I should be doing a lot more backpacking next year, so it may be worth the wait. :)

Ah... spendy gear is what birthdays, mother's day, anniversarys and christmas are for!! LOL!!! (only kinda kidding - I got a gift cert for a new pack for our anniversary)

Very light but also very expensive.
Isn't it very thin for an airmatras?

One of the drawbacks of pre-production testing is the non-disclosure
agreements. I've signed so many I don't even talk to myself anymore. I never
say anything about an item I am testing unless the company specifically
approves it. I only had trouble one time. I mentioned testing an item 2
years after it came out and ended up in a chat with their legal department.
Everyone agreed I didn't do anything wrong but I've been even more careful
since then.

I've known for awhile how it worked but, due to patent processes, couldn't
say anything. Watching the evolution of the pad over the 4 years of field
testing has been interesting. It just kept getting lighter and warmer.

But I sure am glad the damned thing is finally out.....   ;o)

Jerry

Is that as noisy as the mylar survival blankets?

Yes.

However, the outstanding performance of the Blizzard more than
compensates (in my opinion).

There seems to be a problem with the link, which should open to the
Reflexcell Technology page on Blizzard's website.

Here's attempt part two:
