Themus removed from build

Hi,

I've removed the themus vfs-method from the control center build
although it's still available in SVN for the moment.

Since there was no way of discovering the themus:// method I suspect no
one was using it. Also, with the introduction of gio/gvfs I think these
methods are no longer supported anyway.

Regards,

Thomas

should we also disable fontilus, or is it still being used by Nautilus ?

The fonts:// mechanism won't be used, but there are some other
interesting things in fontilus, such as the font thumbnailer and the
context menu plugin. We could just remove the vfs method, although it
seems rather an odd thing to have in control-center anyway.

Regards,

Thomas

What's replacing it?  I've always found it useful, and often refer
other people to it as a quick way to install or view their fonts...
I'd consider its removal a notable regression.

Cheeri,
Calum.

It's not being removed on purpose, it just hasn't been ported to gvfs
yet.

I would agree that it's useful, but as far as I know just opening
~/.fonts has pretty much the same result.

Thomas

but ~/.fonts only shows the locally-installed fonts, doesn't it?

Yes, hence "pretty much" the same, but it allows you to add and remove
fonts.

Do we need a separate font manager application? A quick search on the
web doesn't really bring up any suitable font manager applications for
GNOME...

Thomas

I think it might make sense to have it separated, but at least, we could
just convert fontilus to be that gnome-font-manager application instead
of being a gnome-vfs/gvfs backend

Sounds like a good start, although a 'real' font manager would provide
additional features too[1].  They can always come later though.

Cheeri,
Calum.

[1] See <http://maczealots.com/tutorials/fonts/#management> for a
description of the font manager that's built into OS X, and <http://www.linotype.com/2629/fontexplorerxfeatures.html
