Hey everyone.
I'm having a hard time finding information, so I'm just asking around on a few
lists. I really hope someone can get me pointed in the right direction, or lend
some information.

I'm working on a team at the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette building a small satellite. My
project is the communications subsystem, which will be an SDR powered by a
Blackfin MCU.

We're at the development stage, and are having a hard time finding a cheap,
compatible JTAG programmer, and a means to flash our soon-to-be development
board. We want to run native code on the MCU.

Does anyone have experience programing these, or know of a compatible JTAG
programmer that will run with JTAG tools.. or any other slightly cheap
alternative?
The device we are using is the ADSP-BF537 and we have the STAMP development
board, running uC linux. We would like to develop our own kernel, though, and
can't seem to find a cheap way to flash it. For now we can use Das U-Boot on
the development board, but when we switch to our own board, we're going to run
into a brick wall.

I'd like to steer clear of the $3,000+ programmers/software, but if they are
the only option we have, we'll just have to go with one of those.

Any information anyone has would be amazing.
Thanks for your time.

I'd like to steer clear of the $3,000+ programmers/software, but if they are
the only option we have, we'll just have to go with one of those.

Any information anyone has would be amazing.
Thanks for your time.
Hi,

> an SDR powered by a Blackfin MCU.
> We're at the development stage, and are having a hard time finding a cheap,
> compatible JTAG programmer, and a means to flash our soon-to-be development

Any adapter that is supported by UrJTAG, a further developed version of the
openwince JTAG tools, can be used to program flash at a Blackfin DSP and
AFAIK even for debugging. For example, most if not all FT2232-based
adapters are supported, which usually consist of no more than a FTDI
FT2232 (http://www.ftdichip.com) and maybe level shifters to adapt to
the target voltage. If you search the net for FT2232 and JTAG you will
find a number of ready-made adapters to buy.

For more info about UrJTAG, see http://www.urjtag.org or even better,
because Blackfin-specific, see the documentation about using UrJTAG at
http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/doku.php?id=flashing_the_board

In fact, the jtag tools that come with the blackfin toolchain are almost
the same as UrJTAG. I'm not up-to-date about the current differences,
but assume there are only a few.

I have already been using UrJTAG and a JTAGkey from Amontec successfully
to revive a BF537-STAMP board (where I killed the bootloader accidentally)

Hey everyone.
I'm having a hard time finding information, so I'm just asking around on a few lists. I really hope someone can get me pointed in the right direction, or lend some information.

I'm working on a team at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette building a small satellite. My project is the communications subsystem, which will be an SDR powered by a Blackfin MCU.

We're at the development stage, and are having a hard time finding a cheap, compatible JTAG programmer, and a means to flash our soon-to-be development board. We want to run native code on the MCU.

Does anyone have experience programing these, or know of a compatible JTAG programmer that will run with JTAG tools.. or any other slightly cheap alternative?
The device we are using is the ADSP-BF537 and we have the STAMP development board, running uC linux. We would like to develop our own kernel, though, and can't seem to find a cheap way to flash it. For now we can use Das U-Boot on the development board, but when we switch to our own board, we're going to run into a brick wall.

This can't be a coincidence. The JTAG CVS pull made today, looks to be
broken in much the same areas as the numbered release. Reference here
for that purpose:

As you can see it explodes in the cmd directory which is also part of
the same library that supplies the flash ones. However it does appear
files from the bzip2ed compressed file from Source Forge, with the one
from CVS. And continue from there. However that happened after doing
that. This didn't happen the first time.

Ideally that is. That first time was when the OS was first installed
on that box. This is the second go-round. I needed to reinstall
everything the other day after a catastrophic failure in the OS
surfaced.

Any suggestions? Also are there any fellow users of Slackware on this list?

Initial Comment:
Hi everyone, I am desperate for help!!

I am using the latest version of UBUNTU. I recently downloaded a copy of jtag-0.5.1 and include-0.4.2 from the sourceforge.net website.

I tried ./configure, make and make install for include and everything worked out fine. Then I moved on to the jtag-0.5.1.

./configure worked without errors. However, when I tried to make or make install (prior to this I did a sudo make so it's not due to insufficient rights) I got this error:

make[4]: Leaving directory `/tmp/jtag/libbrux/po'
make[4]: Entering directory `/tmp/jtag/libbrux'
          -c -o cmd_detectflash.o `test -f 'cmd/cmd_detectflash.c' || echo './'`
cmd/cmd_detectflash.c; \
        then mv -f ".deps/cmd_detectflash.Tpo" ".deps/cmd_detectflash.Po"; \
        else rm -f ".deps/cmd_detectflash.Tpo"; exit 1; \

What's going on? What did I do wrong?

I kept the two directories (jtag-0.5.1 and include-0.4.2) separate. Am I supposed to replace the include folder in jtag-0.5.1 with the include-0.4.2?

Another question: When I "./configure" in the jtag-0.5.1 folder, am supposed to type "./configure --with-include=PATH", where PATH is the path of include-0.4.2? I tried this out but still I experience the same problem on top.

Please help! My professor is shouting at me!

Hello!
Our host is telling you that it was indeed fixed in the one inside CVS.
Instructions for retrieving it are found on the tab for code and then
select CVS. Select as module the jtag one. You can either use it, or copy
over the relevant files into the directory where you see the complaint.

The idea is to do the retrieval into a new and empty directory.

Hi, thanks for the help. As mentioned in 4th line of my original posting,
I did "./configure && make && make install" in the include-0.4.2 directory
first, and it worked out fine. The only problem comes when i do the same
for the jtag-0.5.1.

Do you know how to fix the CVS? I am absolutely clueless about CVS.

Hi, you're supposed to do a "./configure && make && make install" in the
include-0.4.2 directory first.

The problem you're reporting with detectflash might be fixed in the CVS
version of jtag (or include).

OT: As a compatible alternative, you could try UrJTAG (http://urjtag.org)

Initial Comment:
Hi everyone, I am desperate for help!!

I am using the latest version of UBUNTU. I recently downloaded a copy of jtag-0.5.1 and include-0.4.2 from the sourceforge.net website.

I tried ./configure, make and make install for include and everything worked out fine. Then I moved on to the jtag-0.5.1.

./configure worked without errors. However, when I tried to make or make install (prior to this I did a sudo make so it's not due to insufficient rights) I got this error:

> Hi all.
>
> For several reasons I have no time and interest to maintain this project. It is
> true for several years and I see that this is really bad for everyone.
>
> The most important subproject of the OpenWinCE project is JTAG Tools. I
> understand that the community need to do _something_ with the JTAG Tools
> subproject.
>
> To make a progress in the OpenWinCE project and especially with the JTAG Tools
> I am offering new project admin position(s) and/or developer position(s) with
> CVS write access.
>
> If there is somebody who is willing to take over leadership of the OpenWinCE
> project, please discuss it here.

I'm also willing to help. Especially interesting to me is integrating
all the Xilinx parts.

Can the sourceforge project just handle a team? If so, that might be
best: aka several people with write access.

> Please note that I am ok with any future of the JTAG Tools and OpenWinCE,
> including moving it elsewhere, renaming it, or killing it. It is up to you,
> community.

I think everyone is happy you got the ball rolling on a project like
this and that you are willing to open things up to let some more
people have commit access.

Enjoy & happy hacking,

jtag patch for sa1100

Hi guys,

I've being on the list for about 5-6 years now, used the jtag package
myself, and contributed a couple of patches too. I really enjoyed working
with it!

Now, some time ago I had a problem with my Tuxscreen - a nice little
videophone, based on the sa1100 CPU. Had to reflash it and found out, that
jtag didn't support sa1100 - only sa1110. I was about to write a patch
myself, but searching around gave me some pointers to an existing patch. I
contacted its author, and indeed, he kindly sent me the patch and I could
restore my tux.

So, since then I planned to clean up the patch and submit it to jtag, but
never had time for it. Don't thinik I will have time soon either.
Actually, the cleanup that's needed there is just replace all "shannon"
with "sa1100" everywhere, and adapt / test it in the current version of
jtag. I asked the author and he gave me his permission to submit his
patch. So, if anyone volunteers to do the work - "s/shannon/sa1100/g" +
forward-port + test, I would just send him or her the patch off-list.
Would be great to have sa1100 supported by jtag even though it's been
discontinued quite a few years ago now.

Thanks
Guennadi

> months ago for the purpose of creating a new jtag tool set. After mails
