The UPS is not powered off by apcupsd...My operating system: Kubuntu 8.04
The version of apcupsd I am using: 3.14.2 (15 September 2007) debian The model and UPS cable I am using: Back-UPS RS 500, USB Cable Description of the problem: The relevant part of apcupsd.events during Full Power Down Test (TIMEOUT 0): Tue Jul 01 15:05:45 ALMT 2008 Power failure. Tue Jul 01 15:05:51 ALMT 2008 Running on UPS batteries. Tue Jul 01 15:26:08 ALMT 2008 Reached remaining time percentage limit on batteries. Tue Jul 01 15:26:08 ALMT 2008 Initiating system shutdown! Tue Jul 01 15:26:08 ALMT 2008 User logins prohibited Tue Jul 01 15:26:14 ALMT 2008 apcupsd exiting, signal 15 Tue Jul 01 15:26:14 ALMT 2008 apcupsd shutdown succeeded 1) While running on UPS battery there were not 4 sound signals from the UPS every 30 sec as it should be according to the UPS manual. 2) When system shutdown was initiated I expected the current KDE session should be correctly logged out, but it was suddenly interrupted. 3) The UPS was not powered off by apcupsd. Namely after shutdown On Battery (yellow) indicator was lit for about a minute. Then Power on (green) and Overload (red) indicators blinked alternately several times and went out. I did not touch power on/off button of the UPS. Afterwards I plugged the power cord back in and Power on (green) indicator lit up and remained in such state continuously. Thank you in advance for any suggestions to fix these problems. -- Best regards, Aleck ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! Apcupsd is not involved in this. Ask APC. > 2) When system shutdown was initiated I expected the current KDE > session should be correctly logged out, but it was suddenly > interrupted. This is the job of your operating system. Apcupsd simply issues a shutdown command (see apccontrol script to find out what command it uses on your system). Proper logout, etc. is the operating system's responsibility. > 3) The UPS was not powered off by apcupsd. Actually, that means it *did* power off. That's exactly the correct behavior. > I did not touch power on/off > button of the UPS. Also correct behavior...I'm not sure what you think is wrong? --Adam ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! I expected if the UPS is powered off then I have to push its power on button when power is back. Thank you very much for your response. -- Best regards, Aleck ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards: VOTE NOW! When a UPS is turned off through software (or it ran out of juice), it's not physically off, it's just in a dormant state, waiting for AC power to be restored, so it can kick back on, and turn on all the machines hooked on to it. That's just normal operations. Even computers are like that nowadays...if you physically power them off, they stay off. However, if they do a software shutdown because of loss of AC power, they will restart when power is restored. -- H | It's not a bug - it's an undocumented feature. +-------------------------------------------------------------------- Ashley M.
