Hey Ken,

You ought to call your car "The Ken Parsons Project" after the Alan Parsons Project (the band). Glad to see another EV VW recycled. It'll be interesting to see how the battery placement plays out. I've seen enough Beetles to know how they go.

So crazy. I am in the process of converting a 1973 Type III squareback myself
and am in the beginning stages. Someone gave me the car and I was going to
sell it, but am now deep into research and literally still a bolt away from
the engine being removed. I am going to use an Advance DC 203-06-4001A motor (8") and Curtis Controller 1221C in a 96V system. This way I can upgrade to120V if necessary but for me this car will be an 8 mile one-way city commute car, so I don't need any performance engine. I am still unsure of whether touse Trojans or Optimas (flooded lead acid vs. AGM), though I am planning onusing the 12V T-1275 Trojans. All told, I think it is going to cost between
5000-6500. I am keeping a blog - squarebackev.blogspot.com - so when you
start your blog please post your address here as I'd like to see yourm progress.

Hey Richard,

Good idea, esp since my middle name is a Welsh version of Alan (Alwyn)...

I like the look of your battery placement and am quite open to your suggestions. Right now I'm considering doing 5 along the back of the passenger seat and three up front (two in the spare tire well) for a 96v system. I'm interested in having a welder place 4 underneath near the motor but don't think the motor mount will accommodate them. How did you mount your motor and get batteries around it? How do you vent your batteries up front? I'm also going to use the former gas tank access for my charger cable (which looks like what you did) so I don't know where to vent the fan.
