GATE 2 Vs 2 ROYAL OAK

The gate travelled to the oak today and after a little messing round finding the changing rooms and then the pitch the gate found themselves on the pitch with no time to warm up and little time for a team talk.

Stevo went with ben in goal a back 4 of nat jacko ryan and mucky duffy and mortan on the wings dan and nicky in the centre and the hill and cooper combo. Shifty JP and james on the bench. The gate never really got going in the first half and only really learned that oak enjoy the long ball and have 1 pacey winger and 1 skillful winger despite a lot of shouting from the touchline the gate looked shockingly slow not winning much in the air losing 50/50’s and not really competing anywhere on the park this saw the gate 2 down by half time the first was a hand of god blaten handball the the other was a well worked goal the gate got what they deserved. Stevo made 1 sub at half time mucky went off nicky went to full back and JP in the centre however the gate looked like a different team and with this new found desire they were competing all over the park now winning 50/50s and 60/40s for the first time in the game the gate found something and the oak did not know what had hit them with some good football been played now the gate got a goal and it came in the shape of nicky hart the gate continued to push and with mortan taking a knock stevo now had to push JP out wide and cooper to the centre with shifty coming on up top more good football which saw mark hill notching another one up for the season now the gate was in total control and had around 17 mins to score the winner and despite the ball not leaving the oaks half the gate could not find the net, I mean it was literally chance after chance but it was not to be the gates day and regardless of the most 1 sided 17 mins I have ever seen the honours were shared GATE 2 – ROYAL OAK 2. SCORERS hart and hill.

FEW KEY POINTS –

Jacko nearly falling over 6 times and trying to head the ball despite it been on the floor nearly!!
Nats sore neck after watching speedy gonzals whiz past him a number of times!!
That bird on the side line trying to put everyone off!!!

GATE 5 Vs 1 AFC SHEPHERDS ARMS

Today saw the gates first home game of the season and if they want to keep there home record in pristine condition only a win would do at the FORTRESS.

A few changes to the line up today saw ben in net with mucky ryan jacko and nat at the back duffy mortan gav and dan in midfield coops and hill up front, so the nets were up and the gate was in a relaxed mood had a steady warm up as the fans kept turning up and from the kick off played with purpose and meaning the gate wanted to prove something today, they are not here to finish mid table we are here for silverwear was written on everyones tackling passing and shooting. It was not long before the gate took the lead with excellent play from coops and hill. with Shepherds playing 5 across the middle on a narrow pitch duffy and mortan worked tirelessly linking up with mark and coops again to earn another goal, the gate continued to dominate and it was 3-0 by half time. The gate eased off the pace early in the second half and was in the comfort zone, 2 lazy challenges no-one winning the second and a sloppy goal was conceded, was this a consolation or a come back!? ……….. it was a mere consolation the gates desire was back and for the final time in the game they took control fresh legs were brought on and the gate was rewarded with 2 more goals the final whistle went and the gate won 5-1. SCORERS- hill 2, cooper , nat and mortan.

Few key points

Mark and Hill playing in harmony like a well oiled machine!!
Truemans mighty knee!!!
Nat saying about gav “ IF YOU GET ANY HARDER YOU WILL SET!!”

………..and finally its here as the long summer breaks grinds to a halt and its time for all the hard work and preparation to be put to the test and rewarded, after a surprisingly short drive we arrived at the pitch but the ref was intent on STAMPING his authority early and with no time to warm up or get in the zone we was off, luckily jay had named the team as we were getting changed and was in the shape of ben, nat dobbo trueman(C) jacko duffy mortan dan gav shifty and hill with stanny cooper james and mucky on the bench.

I would say the gate started the worst I have ever seen them but the did not even start until the half hour mark and with such the high standard they have set was still not quite there, however the gate still was not troubled by Stanley and after the 30 minute learning curve there was only 1 team who was learning and adapting to a brand new league, team and refereeing style. The 35 minute mark saw the gate now imposing themselves on Stanley who looked tired and was not reacting. half time whistle went and with some wise and encouraging words from jay and shifty been rested for coops the gate started right from where they left off and really had the game by the scruff of the neck, some fantastic football right out of the top draw and a finish to match by mark hill saw the gate put there noses in front with this new found confidence the football got better and it looked like there was only 1 team going to score the gate was trying to get a tempo going but with stern resistance there was only so much they could do and after having 90% of the possession the gate conceded from a corner they won the first ball but with a leg swung the ball somehow found the net. The gate looked shocked and disappointed but as a team they pulled together and kept there heads up and went right back at Stanley armed with the last 5 mins and gritty determination, up to now the ref had give the gate nothing but yellow cards and that was not about to change with stanny on for mortan he grabbed what was sure to be the winner………… only for it to be ruled out by a dubious off side decision and that was the last kick of the game.

Few key points
COOPER is back and looks hungry
JACKO been the coolest man on the pitch when everyone round him is losing there composure.
GAV getting booked for been fouled

Before the game I would have settled for nothing less then all the points however under the circumstances I think the point away from home is a good result and I think more importantly we all learned something!.
Today’s friendly saw the gate travelling to Wakefield off the back of a bad result against a good ponty side. The gate will have to show good character today as this is the last test before the season and what a test it should be, red lion are a established team in the league above where the gate will be playing this season.

Just 1 forced change from the last game with Ben Powell not available for selection but Damo got between the sticks and did a right job (he is as good in there as he is out)trueman jacko Nat and Nicky offering him protection with gav dan JP and mortan running the middle and hill with shifty as forwards most changes were made to the bench with jimmy col duffy and stanny. The pitch was not up to standard but the gate made good use of the ball gav kell was firing on all cylinders today and between shiftys hard work and mark hill picking up some excellent positions it was not long before the bar and the lions was rattled with mark hill making fantastic use of little space. Mortan worked tirelessly out wide and got the first goal due to his determination, both teams was trying to get the ball down and take control but the gate did this far better till the half. Just in to the second half and mark hill got his reward for he’s efforts. With gate 2 in front they eased off the gas and this saw the lion pick up the pieces trueman and jacko had not put a foot wrong all game and was not about to now, just when the gate needed to soak up a little pressure they was superb. Mortan got his second and this was due to a sweet strike which was right on the money unfortunally he had hat trick was denied from the spot by the keeper changes were now imminent and duffy jim col and stanny came on which saw the gate regain control duffy gave us another option out wide stanny working like a trooper up front jim terrorising the centrehalfs and cols fresh 16 year old legs helping out in midfield the gate now back in control till the 85th min which saw a VERY week penalty conceded and in fairness to the ref it was his first mistake of the day however they managed to convert there spot kick and that saw the game finish 3-1.

FEW KEY POINTS
GAV and that daisy slip AGAIN
RYAN gayest shout in the world “RYANS HERE!”
DAN climbing off gavs back for the last 4 mins
NAT not been too keen on playing centre half

Good result but I am taking that very lightly and hope we meet far better teams next season, maintain the attitude and confidence and we will not lose many games.

MATCH REPORT- GATE FC 15 – 1 ROUNDHEAGENS

Off the back of a good result against crossgates the Gate was ready for a game that would be a tester and after a little trouble finding the pitch the first battle was won, a inferior team who feared the gate was struggling to field 11, after long deliberation Jay Stevoe let Mucky and James play for them as gate had 2 more subs and 90 mins is a good run out in pre season.

The gate made changes due to injury and went with peanut as stopper Trueman(C) and jacko with nicky and nat making up the back 4, Duffy Gav JP and Dan do the job in midfield shifty and mark hill as strikers, Col and Morton subbing with jay stevo as ref due to injury. You could see the gate was far superior right from the off and this team struggled to cope with the pace that gate set, moving the ball fast and with meaning it was not long till the net was ruffled due to some great link up with shifty and mark hill. The Gate continued the pace right till half time with mark hill and gav showing good chemistry and clinical finishing they was cruising by half time. A change was made and the gate came out more settled and steadied the pace with mortan replacing Duffy. The second half saw hatricks complete by Mark hill who ended up with 5 and Dan who not only got his first goal in gate colours but completed his hatrick. The game continued and regardless of the score the gate continued to work hard an was roofless, with peanut having very little to do up to the 75th min the game was surly going to be SILLY – NIL until a cross came over and was handled by Jacko (for the second week running) the ref pointed to the spot and the gates own James Stevenson stepped up the take it, good solid penalty saw the goal keeper waving bye to his clean sheet bonus. The gate dominated again till the final whistle.

SCORERS – mark hill 5, Dan Hewitt 3, gav kell 2, shifty 2 nat welsh 1, chris mortan 1, AND JP 1.

FEW KEY POINTS
Mark Hills blistering pace and Gav Kells pass ability been deadly.
Mucky trying to get a shirt next season by chopping down anyone in sight
Jackos hand of god AGAIN.
ROUNDHEAGENS 2 best players been James and Mucky.

With the free transfer of Danny Hewitt been signed off and the additions of Nicky hart and James Stevenson the gate looked a strong side that’s without the mention of the Gates top scorer from last season ste cooper been available for selection.

The Gate played with there formidable 4-4-2 with trueman, jacko, kell and stevo at the heart of the play dobbo and Nat as fullbacks Duffy and Nicky out wide tricky and shifty up top with Ben between the sticks.
After a stern word in the team talk about discipline the gate came flying out of the traps and controlled the tempo of the game which look key in the hot conditions, many subs were made in the "roll on roll off" agreement and soon we would see how the new lads and cooper would be integrated into the squad. The first half ended with shared honers and already changes had been made to the gate team little into the second half and again the gate took the game by the scruff of the neck Dan Hewitt had settled in centre mid with James Stevenson working hard and terrorising there defence up front and Nicky hart slotting back to full back where he look more comfortable on and off the ball. The gate found another gear and played some fantastic touch football in difficult heat and uncut grass now seeing the Cooperman also been brought on along with some RE-freshed legs which saw the gate ease in front and took it to 5-2 with 10 mins to play. More changes had to be made with tired legs and the opptunity to try new things, trueman the Captain came off and Nat now tried to settle next to jacko but before the gate could find a rhythm cross gates had pinched back two goals through no fault of bens who proved he is the best keeper in the league. THE FINAL WHISTLE WENT AND FINISHED THE GATE 5-4 CROSSGATES.

Few key points in the game for me-
JAY STEVOS play hard but fair talk then chopping a guy down in the first tackle
MATT JACKOS save off the like with his nose!?
TRICKY staying composed long enough in front of goal to score
GAV KELLS falling over fresh air onto his face

WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED SOME GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYED SO LETS TAKE THE POSITIVES INTO THE NEXT GAME.
